The University of North Dakota (UND) Flying Team won the 2010 Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) national collegiate aviation competition, which was held at Indiana State University-Terre Haute from May 17 to 22. The win marked UND’s 16th SAFECON championship in the 25 years that the university has participated in this competition.

The Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust–funded in memory of aviation pioneer Emil Buehler–has pledged $2 million toward building an aviation maintenance science building at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach campus. The 46,000-sq-ft facility, which will be named the Emil Buehler Aviation Maintenance Science building, will serve students enrolled in Embry-Riddle’s Aviation Maintenance Science program.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is adding a center of excellence dedicated to advanced aeronautics and propulsion system research to its College of Engineering in Daytona Beach, Fla. With a $2 million, three-year budget, the center is Embry-Riddle’s contribution to the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP) project.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will be highlighting its new aviation Ph.D. degree program at the NBAA Convention next week. The program will be available online through its Worldwide Campus division, and there will be three available cognates: operations, security and safety, but only operations will be available to students enrolled in the first class in May.

Next May, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will begin classes for its new aviation Ph.D. degree programs available online through its Worldwide Campus division. According to Embry-Riddle professor of applied aviation studies and aviation program Ph.D. residency coordinator Alan Stolzer, the program is the first of its kind in the world.

The FAA has given $20 million to the FAA Center of Excellence for General Aviation, a research and training facility at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s (ERAU) Daytona Beach, Fla. campus. The money will be used in the advancement and study of such areas as ATC, Free Flight, composite materials, avionics, crashworthiness and survivability.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has a new program that will allow transition from aviation enthusiast to regional airline pilot in less than a year. The accelerated First Officer Flight Training Program is designed as a 10- to 12-month course which provides 550 hr of total flight experience and advanced simulator flight time, preparing the candidate for a position as a first officer on a domestic regional airline.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) has teamed with a New Zealand-based company to provide the international aviation community with aviation English training to meet a new International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirement that identifies English as the official, recognized language of aviation.

A consortium of academia and industry participants has launched a four-year program to evaluate the air traffic management (ATM) processes required to handle the forecast doubling, and perhaps tripling, of air traffic by 2025.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now offering online courses to earn a doctorate degree in psychology or business administration. The Ph.D. program is offered to ERAU students by Northcentral University, an accredited online distance-learning school in Prescott, Ariz. Students who wish to pursue a Ph.D.
