To help pilots and controllers meet new ICAO language proficiency requirements taking effect next March, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has introduced an aviation English program at its main campus in Daytona Beach, Florida. The course involves Web-based and classroom instruction developed by Embry-Riddle and partner Aviation English Services of New Zealand.

Recognizing the managerial potential of the maintenance technician was among the issues under discussion at the 16th annual NBAA Maintenance Management Conference, held this year in Dallas. Some 148 registrants, 26 exhibitors and 52 exhibitor staff members were on hand for the event, the theme of which was “learn from the past; live for the present; plan for the future.”

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now offering online courses to earn a doctorate degree in psychology or business administration. The Ph.D. program is offered to ERAU students by Northcentral University, an accredited online distance-learning school in Prescott, Ariz. Students who wish to pursue a Ph.D.

The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) is joining Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla., in a safety study of spin-training experience by flight instructors. The FAA does not require spin training except for flight instructors, but the “quality and depth of that training can vary widely,” said NAFI executive director Rusty Sachs.

Efforts to curtail such losses have taken a new turn with a three-way cooperative program that teams the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), United States Aircraft Insurance Group (USAIG) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).

The spring semester at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s (ERAU) Daytona Beach, Fla. campus started only six days late last month despite a Christmas Day tornado that destroyed campus buildings and almost two-thirds of the school’s single- and twin-engine piston flight-training fleet. No one was injured in the storm, which the National Weather Service classified as an F2 (causing considerable damage).

Spring semester classes at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) started today despite an F2 tornado that ripped through the campus and destroyed most of the training aircraft on Christmas Day. There were only four people on campus at the time and no injuries were reported, according to a school official.
