Emirates Airline has worked for more than two years to assist Boeing in the design of the 777X, the new airplane expected to begin replacing the phenomenally successful 777-300ER at the end of the decade, according to Emirates president Tim Clark.

The General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates on June 4 announced plans to add two routes between the UAE and Bahrain, bringing the total number to three, to increase system capacity and improve traffic flow. No implementation date was announced for the new routes, which were created in partnership with the Dubai Foundation for Air Navigation Services.

A new Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) aviation study predicts that the Persian Gulf region will see 250 million passengers using its airports each year by 2020 and that annual Middle East aircraft movements will reach 2.3 million five years later, when the number of people living within range of a single flight reaches some 7 billion. The study, titled “The World Via Gulf” and published for Dubai’s The Airport Show, scheduled to take place from May 6 to 8 in Dubai, concludes that the region’s aviation industry will create 294,000 jobs over the next two decades.

The first airplane carrying revenue passengers from Dubai International Airport’s newly opened concourse in Terminal 3 took off Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. local time on its way to London Heathrow Airport. Emirates Airline Flight EK003 officially marked the opening of Concourse A–the world’s first dedicated to Airbus A380 operations.

Montreal, Canada-based flight training provider CAE is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its Emirates-CAE Flight Training (ECFT) center during MEBA this week. The center was created in partnership with the Emirates Group in 2002, and some 4,000 pilots per year are trained there now.

Dubai’s importance as a hub for carrier Emirates Airline continues to increase, along with its proportion of connections to total traffic. Connecting passengers now account for 70 percent of all traffic into and out of Dubai, Emirates reported last month. For example, on September 5, the airline’s Dubai-Glasgow flight, EK27, attracted passengers from 39 points on the globe, from Accra and Cape Town in Africa, Christchurch in New Zealand, and Tokyo and Seoul in Asia.

Based on growing customer demand for interior repair and refurbishment capabilities in the region, Jet Aviation Dubai expected to begin offering cabin work at its maintenance facilities at Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates in this year’s second half.

According to the Swiss-based MRO, completion and refurbishment company, the Dubai facility will provide such work as upholstery, carpeting, overhaul, headliner and side panels, chrome and gold plating, cabinetry, sheet-metal work and repair of fiberglass, plastic and composite items.
