The UK government is contemplating taxing business-jet passengers in a process that would mirror the countryÕs existing airline passenger duty (APD). A decision on the proposed per-passenger tax will be made in June, and if approved could be implemented as soon as this fall.

This AIN editor had an opportunity to tour Emirates/CAE Flight Training Center in Dubai. I was quickly impressed not simply with the size of the center, but also the pristine nature of the entire facility, a location that appears to have thought of almost every possible customer comfort, from snacks and drinks for crewmembers, no matter when their classes might operate, to limousine services to carry customers to and from their hotels.

JetEx Flight Support, an aviation services company with more than 260 locations worldwide, has agreed to donate to Unicef 1 percent of the revenues it generates by providing overflight and landing permits. The agreement, which took effect October 15, will be effective through April 15 next year.

The Engine Alliance GP7200 engine is in the middle of a weight-reduction program that may further help sales as the General Electric-Pratt & Whitney joint venture is engaged in at least three campaigns: with Qatar Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Vietnam Airlines. The engine maker (Hall 4 Stand A10) expects 19 Airbus A380s to be in service flying its turbofans by the end of the year.

Emirates Airline could not wait until this week at Farnborough to order more Engine Alliance GP7200-powered Airbus A380 airliners. Instead it chose last month’s ILA airshow in Berlin as the stage on which to announce its plans to acquire a further 32 of the widebodies.

Airbus delivered Singapore Airlines’ 11th A380 and Lufthansa’s second A380 today, raising the number of airplanes in the in-service fleet to 33. The deliveries raise Airbus’s A380 deliveries this year to 10, placing it “well on track,” according to the company, to meet its full-year target of at least 20.
