The National EMS Pilots Association (NEMSPA) is showcasing two online safety programs at Heli-Expo 2011, developed in collaboration with two helicopter industry safety organizations: Aerosafe Risk Management and Alertness Solutions. NEMSPA expects both programs to enhance safety in the air medical transport industry and commercial helicopter operations in general.
Insurance underwriter USAIG (Booth No. 3116) is here at the NBAA show demonstrating the Alertness Solutions Z-Coach Web-based fatigue management program for pilots. This has been developed by specialists including NASA scientists to provide education and tools to help air crew ensure that they get the best possible sleep and stay alert for flying.
At hearings last month members of the Senate Aviation Operations subcommittee pressured FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt to speed the agency’s rewrite of regulations addressing pilot fatigue. The proposed NPRM dealing with that rewrite was expected in September last year, but has now been pushed back to early this year.
