NATA has published the results of its 2012 compensation survey of general aviation service employees, which includes salaries and benefits for pilots, line-service personnel, maintenance technicians, inspectors and line service and customer service representatives, among others. Employee compensation is also broken down by geographic region of the country, company gross sales, community size and number of employees in the company. The report is free for NATA members who participated in the study, but costs $130 for non-participating members.

Berkley Accident and Health has set up Encap Business Aviation Captive to create “an insurance brokerage program specifically for business aviation employers that employ between ten and 1,000 employees,” Joe Clifton, director of JP Benefits Connection, told AIN. The program offers medical and prescription coverage.

The FAA’s final rule on ADS-B equipage, published last week, appears to offer little change from the agency’s October 2007 notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that was met by almost total industry opposition. The primary concern continues to be the questionable benefits to operators of ADS-B Out equipment compared with its purchase, installation and certification costs.

In hard times past, when an economic crisis resulted in reduced demand for business aircraft and business aviation services, layoffs were common, often with little notice and minimal compensation. In this recession, which has hit business aviation like the downhill run on a roller coaster with no bottom in sight, companies have sought to ease the trauma of job loss.

The pilots of Dallas-based CareFlite have approved a new contract including a pay hike, ending more than a year of work (and grueling negotiations) without a contract. The new three-year contract includes expanded pay and benefits for the pilots, including guaranteed overtime, annual pay increases of up to 6.2 percent and an average starting salary between $47,561 and $66,000.

For the third year in a row, Duncan Aviation was named one of Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For in America.” The Lincoln, Neb. services company was the only general aviation firm to make the list. Ranked at number 25, Duncan was selected by the magazine based on random employee surveys regarding workplace culture, career opportunities, training and education benefits, worker appreciation and compensation.

NBAA’s was one of more than 170 comments filed (mostly in support) to the Securities and Exchange Commission rulemaking proposal to require more detailed reporting of top executive compensation, including such perks as personal use of corporate aircraft.
