Supporting the burgeoning development of wind farms is the next big growth opportunity in the offshore helicopter transportation market, according to Eurocopter UK managing director Markus Steinke. He estimates that by 2020 there will be demand for at least 20 helicopters to be flying to and from offshore wind turbines in the UK sector of the North Sea alone.

Chevron plans to sell its Caribbean fuel marketing and aviation businesses to Vitogaz, a subsidiary of France-based Rubis, by this year’s third quarter. The transaction will include a service station network, equity interest in a refinery operation, terminals and aviation facilities as well as Chevron’s commercial and industrial fuel businesses, according to the company.
The FAA is proposing for the Cessna Citation X an Airworthiness Directive (AD) that would require an inspection to determine the serial numbers of the APU generator and the left and right engine direct-current generators. It would also require related corrective actions, if necessary, and a revision to the airplane flight manual.
Richard Santulli’s new helicopter leasing venture, Milestone Aviation Group, completed its first deal last month–a contract for two Sikorsky 76C++s for Brazil OGP operator Omni Taxi Aereo. The helicopters will be used to service offshore contracts with Petrobras.

Business jet engine programs this year seem to be moving slowly, with little progress to report. Some–like the Snecma Silvercrest–have not been officially launched yet and are still looking for an application. Most news comes from derivative engine programs at Honeywell, Pratt & Whitney Canada and Williams International.
World Fuel Services has agreed to acquire Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Western Petroleum, including its branded aviation fuel distribution business, for $95 million. The $95 million purchase price could be increased by up to $20 million if Western’s net assets exceed an agreed target at completion of the deal, which is expected this month.
A new General Electric turboprop engine, derived from the 7,500-shp GE38-1B turboshaft engine, could become available by the middle of the decade. GE has designated the new engine study CPX38, and is basing it on the turboshaft that will power the U.S. Marine Corps’ new heavy-lift helicopter, the Sikorsky CH-53K. This could mean that the CPX38 would be in the 5,000- to 6,000-shp range.
