An extensive “restructuring” of Boeing’s Alteon Training subsidiary will see the company close four training centers, redistribute assets to other centers and open a new facility in Shanghai to house the first Boeing 787 simulator in China. The facilities marked for closure include Long Beach, Calif., Dallas, Texas, Kunming, China and Luton, UK. Boeing expects to close the two U.S. centers and the Chinese facility in December.
Signature Flight Support’s parent BBA Aviation has sold Oxford Airport in the UK to private investment group OA Acquisitions for £40 million ($80 million). The new owner is part of the Aldersgate Investments group controlled by multi-millionaire British real estate developers David and Simon Reuben.
London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 1333) opened its new apron last month, significantly increasing available aircraft parking space to almost 270,000 sq ft. According to Robert Walters, the privately owned airport’s business development manager, the expansion will allow aircraft to be parked more safely and also increases capacity by some 60 percent.

Hamlin Jet has joined with Northern Executive Aviation (NEA) of Manchester, UK, to open a satellite service center at London Luton Airport (EGGW). The two companies will be offering line maintenance and warranty support for existing NEA clients and visiting aircraft from the U.S. and Europe. Services include hangarage and full factory warranty support on all Learjet models, whether JAA or FAA registered.
Effective March 25 all general aviation aircraft are required to have slots for landings and takeoffs at London Luton Airport. The privately owned airport has said that it has had to introduce the requirement to be able to “better manage the flow of ad hoc traffic.” It has emphasized that it does not wish to discourage business aviation traffic.
Business aircraft cabin specialist MacCarthy Interiors has moved its headquarters to a new and larger facility near Gatwick Airport, about 35 miles south of London. The move essentially doubles its capacity. MacCarthy earlier last year signed an agreement with Harrods Aviation that allows both companies to offer similar interior completion and refurbishment services at their respective locations at London Luton and Stansted Airports.
Following a “long and successful” relationship between the two companies, the von Essen Group acquired UK business aviation charter operator PremiAir Aviation Group last month. PremiAir already manages von Essen’s helicopter and business jet fleet, as well as London’s only commercial heliport at Battersea, which von Essen purchased for about $95 million in February.

Signature Flight Support has expanded its fast-growing European FBO network further with the acquisition of the Executive Aircraft Services (EAS) facility at London Heathrow Airport. Signature’s parent group, BBA Aviation, is set to buy the operation for $8.1 million (£4.5 million).
