Although the annual conference is Women in Aviation International’s biggest event, the association’s influence extends far beyond the two-day conference. In fact, company leaders attribute some of their success to membership in professional organizations such as WAI.

Tracy Chaplin, COO of Clearwater, Fla.-headquartered fractional provider Avantair, is one such executive.

UK aircraft maker Britten-Norman has reached a pay settlement with members of the Amicus trade union. In a deal struck on October 9, the Isle of Wight-based manufacturer reached an agreement with its workforce on pay and other issues, ending a strike that had begun three days earlier. Company and union officials had started to negotiate new terms in January. Britten-Norman makes the Islander line of piston- and turbine-powered aircraft.

Most fliers can probably recite the safety briefing by heart on just about any airplane these days. Air New Zealand has created what it believes is an engaging pre-takeoff video to reacquaint passengers with needed safety information. The airline’s production used outdoorsman Bear Grylls.
