Digital audio specialist Heads Up Technologies of Carrollton, Texas, plans to begin flight testing in the next two months of its satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) for use with XM Satellite Radio’s recently launched commercial service, which will make 100 channels of satellite-transmitted audio available to aircraft passengers over the continental U.S.

The Art of Flight is the title of an exhibition of paintings produced by David Bent on show in Hall 4. The exhibition features original works including a major new painting commemorating the 90th anniversary of the RAF, the “Plane Tessellation” series based on aircraft shapes and the “Red Arrows Collection.” Bent’s prints are limited to a maximum of 50 each and signed by the artist.

Fairs & Exhibitions Aerospace, which runs the Dubai Airshow and other events in the Middle East, has named Heather Rezek as general manager. She is tasked with building the company’s portfolio of shows, which–in addition to the Dubai Airshow–includes Middle East Business Aviation, Aircraft Interiors Middle East Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Middle East, and Aerospace & Defence Training Show.

With multiple camera angles (including in-cockpit cameras), the DVD offers comprehensive coverage of the daily flying displays as well as special features on topics such as the Centenary of British Flight and interviews with pilots.

Imagine being a new aircraft manufacturer and having Gene Cernan and Bob Hoover check out your airplane in one day. It happened yesterday to Jim McCotter, president and CEO of Maverick Jets, at the Maverick booth (No. 3915) when the astronaut and the aerobatic pilot each tried out the pilot’s seat of the mockup of the sleek personal jet (there’s an airplane at Static Display No. 21, also).

USAIG (Booth No. 2621) and its managers, United States Aviation Underwriters, this week announced the start of a year-long celebration of the company’s 75th anniversary. The New York-based company was launched in 1928 and has insured such well-known personalities as Lieutenant James (Jimmy) Dolittle’s first instrument flight and such tragedies as the crash of the airship Hindenburg.

NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) have denounced a report on private jet travel and the general aviation industry issued by the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) and Essential Action (EA), two left-leaning Washington think tanks. In short, the report echoes the airline industry’s claim that GA does not pay its fair share of ATC costs and is the cause of airport congestion.
