Five days before the 2010 Ryder Cup golf tournament began on October 1 in Newport, South Wales, UK-based charter operator PremiAir announced that its helicopter transfer services were “fully booked” for the event. Dedicated to these flights were a four-seat Eurocopter AS355 Twin Squirrel and an eight-seat Sikorsky S-76. Among other starting points, services were offered from London heliport for a 50-minute journey.

HeliValues (Booth No. 3401) president Sharon Desfor said on Sunday here at Heli-Expo 2010 that values of used helicopters may be nearing the bottom. “It could be the middle of this year,” she said, “depending on how much credit loosens up. That has been holding back the market more than any other single factor. If you can’t get money, you can’t buy anything, so the used inventory keeps escalating.”

A Heli-Lynx-modified Eurocopter AS 355FX2R recently passed 5,000 hours time in service with the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago. The Heli-Lynx STC conversion replaces the standard helicopter’s engines, electrical system, instrument panel and trim cables. It also increases horsepower, fuel capacity, endurance and useful load.
