Eurocopter last month announced that its EC 225 Super Puma firefighting system is undergoing a certification process, with deliveries pegged to start next year. The main component of the retrofittable system is a flexible 4,000-liter (1,060 U.S. gallon) tank attached to the cabin floor. The system also includes a water scoop and jettison kit. It can be installed or removed in 20 minutes, according to Eurocopter.
Eurocopter has received from the Austrian Ministry of Interior an order for eight EC 135 P2is. The “P” in the designation indicates the engines are Pratt & Whitney Canada PW206s. Deliveries of the police-configured helicopters will take place between next March and May 2009. The last four aircraft will be equipped with forward-looking infrared cameras and searchlights.
Small but noteworthy helicopter equipment manufacturers found a suitable showcase for their products at Helitech 2007 in Duxford, England, early last month. FDC Aerofilter, a California-based company that specializes in engine inlet barrier filtration, is developing a new filter for the Eurocopter EC 135. It is slated for certification by next year. FDC is also working on extending the life expectancy of its filters. Removal intervals, currently at 1,500 hours, are to be increased to 3,000 hours within months, sales manager Ann Cooper told AIN.
Eurocopter and the world-renowned house of Hermès revealed their “l’Hélicoptère par Hermès,” an EC 135 with a decidedly upscale interior. The project began after officials from both companies met at EBACE in Geneva in May 2005, held discussions for six months and decided to cooperate on a joint project that culminated in the special edition of the EC 135 on display at the NBAA show.

Quebec-based avionics manufacturer Amphitech International last month received limited Canadian STC approval to install its OASys wire- and obstacle-detection radar aboard a Eurocopter AS 350B3 Ecureuil. The helicopter, operated by Heli-Express, was to embark on an eastern U.S.
According to a high-ranking official with the Hafei Aviation Industry Co., of Harbin, China, that nation expects to manufacture Eurocopter EC 120 helicopters in the near future. “It has been approved in principle to let us build a new assembly line to manufacture the EC 120 helicopter outside France,” said Qu Jingwen, general manager of Hafei Aviation Industry.

ILA has doubled in size since it moved to Berlin Schoenefeld Airport from Hanover 10 years ago. Opening on May 6, this year’s event attracted 1,067 exhibitors from 40 countries (up from 941 at ILA 2000) and 340 aircraft. During the first three days 90,000 trade visitors attended the event, 6,000 more than expected.
