Eurocopter yesterday delivered its 800th Dauphin here at Le Bourget after the helicopter’s 15-minute trip from the Paris downtown heliport. Eurocopter president Fabrice Brégier said that with 30 to 40 deliveries a year, Eurocopter was looking forward to delivering its 1,000th Dauphin.

Eurocopter yesterday  reported orders here at Le Bourget for EC 225 and EC 155 B1 rotorcraft from Bristow Helicopters and, in a separate contract, for EC 135s from Era Helicopters. UK-based Bristow took delivery of one EC 225 at Eurocopter’s static display. Eurocopter president and CEO Fabrice Brégier handed over of the aircraft, which is on display throughout the show.

NH Industries (NHI) has put project studies for a commercial version of the NH90 helicopter on the back burner. The multinational partnership had been studying a civil version of the NH90 military utility rotorcraft for possible application in governmental, executive and offshore-support roles.

Nine Eurocopter EC 635 helicopters supplied to the Royal Jordanian Air Force some two years ago have performed so well that the RJAF considering placing an additional order.  The original batch had been ordered and subsequently cancelled by the Portuguese military but have proved to be ideally suited to the tough climatic conditions in Jordan.

Eurocopter AS 350 B3, Pilar, N.M., Jan. 29, 2005–The NTSB blamed the accident on the pilot’s failure to maintain control and his improper use of night-vision goggles (NVGs). His spatial disorientation, self-induced pressure to return the helicopter to its home base, lack of experience in the use of NVGs, use of exterior lights on a dark night, under overcast skies and against snow-covered terrain, were listed as contributing factors.

A Eurocopter Super Puma crashed in the South China Sea, 103 miles off the Malaysian coast, on November 5, Malaysian national news agency Bernama reported last month. The aircraft was operated by Malaysian Helicopter Services Aviation and chartered by ExxonMobil Exploration and Production, which subsequently stopped chartering the type in Malaysia.

The Eurocopter EC 120B Colibri has been selected as the training platform for a 20-year rotary-wing program in Singapore, the European helicopter manufacturer announced here on Monday. Under the contract, Singapore Technologies Aerospace (ST Aerospace) will receive an unspecified number of EC 120B single-engine light helicopters on which Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) pilots will be trained.

Eurocopter ended 2005 with a major military contract win in South Korea–traditionally a U.S.-dominated market. The Korean government chose the EADS subsidiary as the primary partner of Korea Aerospace Industries in the Korea Helicopter Project (KHP)–a new $6 billion to $8 billion program for the development of the country’s first indigenous military transport helicopter in the 7.5- to 8.5-metric ton class (16,534 to 18,739 pounds).

Design engineers from Eurocopter and the Harbin Aircraft subsidiary of China’s Avic II group gathered on January 9 at Marignane in the south of  France to open the common design office for the EC 175 helicopter program. The joint program, evenly shared between the Europeans and Chinese, calls for certification and entry into service in 2011. However, so far details about the twin-turbine, seven-ton-class rotorcraft are scarce.

The cabin space of the Eurocopter Super Puma can be retained even when two .5-inch caliber machine guns have been installed by ST Aerospace. This is evident from the display in the company’s pavilion at the entrance to Hall A where a Eurocopter Super Puma displays not only a single gun installation, but also a forward-looking infrared pod that can be semi retracted when the helicopter is on the ground.
