A second incident in three days involving collapsed landing gear on a Scandinavian Airlines Bombardier Q400 has prompted Bombardier to recommend that operators ground any Q400 that has accumulated more than 10,000 landing gear cycles until they complete emergency inspections.

The NTSB said last week it is investigating an accident that occurred at Boston Logan International on June 20 in which an American Eagle ERJ 135 struck the runway with the gear retracted before taking off again for a go-around. According to the Safety Board, the crew stated that all three landing gear indicator lights were green before the accident.

Irish regional airline Aer Arran has selected Meggitt group subsidiary Dunlop Aerospace Braking Systems (DABS) to support its ATR 72 twin-turboprop fleet, including replacement aircraft currently on order. DABS is continuing to invest in research and development to improve its ATR 72 wheels and brakes, with plans for an advanced anti-oxidation system to enhance performance.

Could Embraer have become the first voice in aviation to commit to the notion that passengers aren’t necessarily all enthralled with the “no frills” concept of air travel and that they may be prepared to pay a little bit extra to feel less like self-loading cargo?

Embraer is here at Le Bourget exhibiting a 170/175 regional airliner, its super-midsize Legacy 600 executive jet and scale models of its new four-seat Phenom 100 very light jet and nine-passenger Phenom 300 light jet. Production rates and deliveries of its regional jets and Legacy (the 100th twinjet was delivered in March) are picking up following difficulties with suppliers, and activity continues in China.

SATA Air Acores, the carrier that provides interisland transport in the Azores, has leased a third ATP twin-turboprop from BAE Systems Regional Aircraft to boost its fleet to five. Also, on June 15 the airline celebrated its 60th anniversary of scheduled operations.

Brazilian airframer Embraer has selected Menlo’s Singapore Logistics Centre as regional hub for service parts warehousing and fulfillment in Asia. The company will operate a regional logistics hub providing dedicated service parts warehousing and distribution to support the expansion of Embraer’s line of regional and business jets in the Asia-Pacific market.
