Raytheon Aircraft appointed Glenn Oka v-p of customer quality and product reliability, a new position. Formerly v-p of quality assurance, Oka will “ensure” that customer aircraft “whether new aircraft or 40 years old, will experience total product reliability, service and support,” said Raytheon Aircraft. He will focus on areas “our customers feel are important, including DOCs, component reliability, MTBF, modernization and upgrades.”
A new Web-based tool for NBAA members provides business aircraft manufacturers and operators real-time information about business aircraft maintenance and performance.
Called the Forum for Enhanced Reliability and Maintainability Standards, Ferms allows individual operators to benefit not only from the compilation of their own aircraft data, but also from information contributed by other experienced fleet operators.
The advent of very light jets has prompted an FAA proposal to require that all new certification projects for turbofan-powered airplanes of 6,000 pounds or less mtow undergo function and reliability testing similar to that which has been required for larger fanjet-powered airplanes. F&R testing would add complexity, time and cost to new-design projects. The new requirement would not apply to developmental projects already under way.
Responding to customer demand for additional capacity, Stevens Aviation has added a 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift to the current 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shift at its Donaldson Center maintenance facility in Greenville, S.C. Both shifts are Monday through Saturday and the company has added four maintenance employees.

Sino Swearingen said it has received the last of a series of 13 FAA type inspection authorizations for its SJ30-2. Function and reliability testing and a “few open items” must still be completed, said the San Antonio company, which expects type certification of the light twinjet before year-end. No information on sales orders was revealed.
A Falcon parts price guarantee program and a program to improve dispatch reliability are two of the latest efforts Dassault has launched as part of a plan to “become the undisputed leader in customer support in business aviation.” Under the parts program, if Dassault “agrees” that the customer has found a component equivalent to a factory replacement part, the company will match the price.
