328 Support Services has started work on another Dornier 328Jet conversion from airliner to executive transport. The twinjet, destined for Aviando Services of Miami, is to be converted into a 12-passenger “luxury” aircraft and is scheduled for delivery in October.

J.R. “Rick” Hundley has been named president and CEO of San Antonio-based M7 Aerospace, succeeding Ron Frederick, who is retiring in December. Hundley previously was a senior executive at consulting firm Business Strategies International, aerospace manufacturing and service organization Safran USA, Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics.

The saga of Ed Swearingen’s 9,250-pound, twin-engine Fanjet, announced in 1986, continues. Emirates Investment and Development Company PSC (Emivest) of Dubai, UAE, the majority owner of Sino Swearingen Aircraft (SSAC), would-be manufacturer of the SJ30 light jet, took the bold step of changing the name of the enterprise to Emivest Aerospace.

Comtran International said it has been awarded an STC for a 12-passenger executive cabin configuration for the Dornier 328Jet, which is being marketed as the Revolution Series 328.

According to Jordan Jaffe, president of Comtran, the 328Jet provides a unique combination of a large cabin with superb passenger comfort, combined with low acquisition and operating costs.

M7 Aerospace, the company that took control of the U.S. assets of Fairchild Dornier some four months ago, has seen a steady flow of Fairchild Metroliner repair and overhaul work since the FAA granted its repair station certification for the type on June 3. But, as CEO Harold “Mac” Williams related, the company’s aspirations extend far beyond offering support for the 700 or so Metros flying around the world.

Swearingen SA-227AC Metro III, Bundeena, Australia, April 9, 2008–The Avtex Air Services Metro cargo flight crashed into the sea after the pilot reported having a minor technical problem. The airplane had turned on departure contrary to ATC instruction.

A flash fire in the hangar at Berry Aviation in Austin, Texas, last Friday morning destroyed an executive-configured 30-passenger Dornier 328-100 turboprop that was undergoing an extensive interior refurbishment. A spokesman for Berry Aviation said the airplane had been completely stripped of its old interior and a worker was using a variety of chemical products to remove sealants and other materials.
