Aviation fuel-management software provider FuelerLinx has unveiled a new fueling pricing aid. The San Francisco-based company, which developed software that automatically finds the latest fuel prices for its customers, is demonstrating its FBOLinx Web site (www.fbolinx.com) here at the NBAA convention (Booth No. 5748).
Everest Fuel Management is using its NBAA appearance (Booth No. 6048) to mark an impressive milestone. In business for five years, the Houston-based company has recently added its 2,000th jet to its fuel program.
Fluctuations in the price of jet fuel during the past two years, coupled with the uncertain economy, have steered many operators and flight departments toward alternative fuel purchasing choices in an effort to reduce costs. Contract fueling programs are thus gaining popularity among business aviation operators.
In the 12 months since the last NBAA convention, most indicators show that business aviation flight hours dropped as aircraft operators and flight departments were squeezed between a shaky economy and unstable fuel prices. Those two factors resulted in reduced demand for jet fuel.
Fuel provider Air BP has released dates for its nationwide two-day safety and quality-control seminar series. Airport personnel, pilots, FBOs and flight department employees are invited to learn about current safety regulations with trainers Walter Chartrand and Dave Ware.
Costa Rican regional airline NatureAir has entered talks with the government of the Central American republic for permission to sell biodiesel fuel to other companies. Despite the fact that its fleet of six de Havilland Canada Twin Otter turboprops runs on jet-A, serving 17 destinations in Costa Rica and Panama, NatureAir calls itself the world’s first carbon-neutral airline.
In October, oil companies Chevron Global Aviation and Phillips 66 Aviation announced new rewards programs for fuel buyers, which allow flight operations to give the rewards to any employee instead of limiting rewards to pilots. Rewards in the new programs are merchandise cards and in Chevron’s case gas cards as well.
FBO Global Aviation, based at Portland-Hillsboro Airport in Oregon, has devised a new twist on consolidating contract-fuel pricing information. While other companies have attempted in the past to create one-stop Web sites that display prices from multiple contract fueling companies, Global Aviation has taken this concept one step further by acting as the buyer for all of its customers’ contract fuel transactions.
Chevron Global Aviation launched a fuel buyer reward program called FlyBuys that offers gas and merchandise gift cards as rewards. FlyBuys is Chevron’s first aviation reward program since the merger of Chevron and Texaco in 2001. Pilots can open their own FlyBuys account, or flight departments can pool cumulative points using one account and hand out rewards as gift cards to anyone in the organization.
