Gulfstream’s new G250 super-midsize jet is the latest to feature Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. With three 15-inch displays and dual multifunction controllers that incorporate standby instrumentation, the G250 system–dubbed PlaneView250 by Gulfstream–also offers optional installation of Rockwell Collins’ HGS-6250 head-up guidance system. First deliveries of the G250 are planned in 2011.

Several steps to add to the support structure for MU-2 operators were announced at NBAA 2002 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America’s aircraft products support division. These include appointment of Aero Air of Hillsboro, Ore., as an authorized Mitsubishi MU-2 service center, and Turbine Aircraft Components (TAC) of Addison, Texas, as exclusive distributor for a number of aircraft overhaul components.

A business is an institution when one of a city’s major thoroughfares and one of its fine hotels bears its name. That’s the way it is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Collins Road runs near the Collins Plaza Hotel. There, in 1933, hometown boy Arthur Collins began the Collins Radio Co.

Rockwell Collins (Booth No. 1208) announced that Cessna has selected its HGS-6000 head-up guidance system for the Citation Columbus, set to debut as the Wichita, Kansas manufacturer’s first-ever HUD-equipped airplane when it enters service in 2014.

Sandel Avionics (Booth No. 1343) said it has started shipping a new version of its SA4550 primary attitude display, designed as a slide-in replacement for older Rockwell Collins flight directors. The LED-backlit display is compatible with the Collins ADI-84, ADI-84A and 329B-7R flight directors. It mates to the existing wiring harness and connector to minimize installation time, Sandel said. List price is $20,950.

Dassault has settled on a new, smaller version of the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HGS 4000 head-up display as an option for its 5,700-nm Falcon 7X trijet. The 7X HGS will provide a wider field of view and larger glass for better viewing during crosswind landings and circling approaches, said Rockwell Collins.

MITSUBISHI MU-2B-60, FERNDALE, MD., MAY 14, 2004–At 7:24 a.m., Mitsubishi MU-2B N755AF, operating as Epps Air Service Flight 101, was destroyed when it crashed in Ferndale while approaching Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). The ATP pilot was killed. VMC prevailed for the flight, which had been operating on an IFR plan from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).

Operators of U.S.-registered CitationJets must disengage the pitch-trim/ autopilot circuit breakers to prevent runaway pitch trim, a condition that has led to at least one accident, according to an October 21 AD (2203-21-17). A CitationJet was ditched on July 22 in Penn Cove in Coupeville, Wash., following a loss of elevator trim control, resulting in an uncommanded nose-down pitch attitude.
