China Satellite Communications and Row 44 owner Global Eagle Entertainment have signed a memorandum of understanding to help Chinese airlines that want to add in-flight connectivity services. The agreement will also allow Row 44 customer airlines to continue delivering in-flight connectivity services while flying into and over China. The agreement calls for Row 44 to provide hardware and software to support satellite-based in-flight connectivity.
Bombardier has selected Lufthansa Technik’s nice HD cabin management and in-flight entertainment system for its upgraded Challenger 350, thus adding audio and video on-demand distribution to personal devices.
Lufthansa Technik said that its nice HD system has a flexible, open IP architecture, based on a wired and wireless broadband Ethernet network. The bottom line in the Challenger 350 will be that each passenger can watch individually chosen movies on an Apple, Android or Windows 8 device and also push content from the device to an embedded display.
Of all the new products it is has on display at EBACE this year, New Berlin, Wisconsin-based Emteq (Booth 1557) expects the most buzz to be around its eConnect advancements. Since eConnect was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2011, Emteq has continued to update the cabin electronics control system, ensuring it not only will serve as a current top-line CMS/IFE system but can also adapt to future needs.
Rockwell Collins is at EBACE (Booth 423) with its latest offerings, featuring the Venue HD cabin management system (CMS) and the most recent interface innovations–Airshow 3-D moving map, Apple-enabling Skybox, the Paves family of in-flight entertainment (IFE) and an HGS flight app.
Seven winners emerged from the Crystal Cabin Awards judging last month, and some of them stand to find a market in business aviation.
The winners were announced at a gala dinner in Hamburg, Germany, on the eve of the opening of the annual Aircraft Interiors Expo.
Candidates with winning entries included Boeing, Diehl Aircabin, Dornier Technologie Systems, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Meru, Thales and Zodiac Aerospace.
When Boeing introduced its iconic Boeing Business Jet, the company emphasized the aircraft’s 6,000-mile range. The airplanes, derivatives of the Boeing 737 airliner, were sold “green,” meaning without a finished interior or final exterior paint scheme. From the production line, they went to a cabin completion center, where Boeing estimated that buyers would spend around $5- to $7 million for customized cabins.
Aeria Luxury Interiors, a start-up division of ST Aerospace in San Antonio, is at work on a long-haul bizliner that arrived in November for heavy maintenance and an extensive cabin refurbishment.
The San Antonio facility also delivered its first project this past summer, a Boeing Business Jet requiring light maintenance and installation of a new in-flight entertainment package.
Jet Aviation Basel (Stand 590) recently completed and delivered an Airbus ACJ319 with the Rockwell Collins Venue cabin management system (CMS) and high-definition entertainment system.
Lufthansa Technik’s Innovation Business Unit has begun production deliveries of its nice HD CMS/IFE (cabin management and in-flight entertainment) system for the new Learjet 70 and 75. It features personal HD video at most seat locations via seven-inch pop-up HD displays. The pop-ups have an ultra-thin, small and lightweight design. The system includes a number of media interfaces–USB, Apple and HDMI–that will enable encoding and streaming on the Ethernet network simply by connecting personal devices to the system to watch and listen.
Rockwell Collins and China Eastern Airlines extended their joint venture, Collins Aviation Maintenance Services Shanghai Limited (CAMSSL), during a ceremonial signing at the Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai, today. “CAMSSL is committed to be the leading maintenance service provider for Rockwell Collins products in the Chinese aviation market,” said Feng Liang, chief engineer for China Eastern Airlines said.
