A five-display upgrade for the Falcon 50 has been STC’d, according to Universal Avionics, developer of the retrofit package.

French avionics maker Thales is in Toulouse developing an all-new flight deck for the ATR -600 series–the newly launched pair of upgrades to the now Honeywell-equipped ATR 42-500 and 72-500 regional turboprops. The new avionics suite features five 6- by 8-inch LCD displays and overall lighter hardware.
Honeywell is on the verge of gaining FAA certification approval for retrofit versions of its Primus Epic integrated avionics suite. Targeting older medium and heavy business jets, Primus Epic CDS/R (control display system/retrofit) has been developed to transform steam-gauge-driven dinosaurs into state-of-the-art hot rods capable of meeting airspace operating requirements for the next decade or more.
Thales Aerospace is using a unique air transport operational environment simulator at its Toulouse, France site to hone technology for future commercial aircraft programs, particularly the replacements for the current Airbus and Boeing single-aisle families.
CMC Electronics showcased its new CMA-9000 flight management system (FMS), which also includes radio management. “The -9000 is a derivative of both the -3000, a helicopter cockpit product, and the airline-oriented -900,” FMS program manager Martin Richard explained. It features several search-and-rescue functions, including programmable moving waypoints.

Effective February 20, the /F suffix for aircraft equipped with single FMSs has been revised to account for advanced Rnav equipment.
Jeppesen and Arinc Direct are pooling their resources to give corporate aviation customers the ability to uplink flight plans directly to an airplane’s flight management system. The service, available in the air or on the ground, eliminates the need for pilots to type flight plans into the FMS, cutting workload and reducing the risk of errors.
Cessna last month announced that all Citation CJ3s will now be equipped from the factory with a standard FMS performance database, providing takeoff and landing performance data. The CJ3 comes with a Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics system and FMS-3000 flight management system. As part of the FMS performance database, Cessna said V-speeds will be calculated and displayed on the PFD.
Honeywell last month gave the first flight demonstrations of an RNP (required navigation performance) approach being developed at Morristown Municipal Airport (MMU), located just a stone’s throw from the company’s global headquarters in New Jersey.
