Garrett Aviation Services (Booth No. 633) is featuring recently completed and in-progress avionics and engine upgrade programs including Collins Pro Line 21 and Honeywell Primus Epic cockpit retrofits, reduced vertical separation minimums (RVSM) equipment and the Williams FJ44-2A re-engining program for the Sierra Eagle II Cessna Citation 501.

Jet Aviation at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), West Palm Beach, Fla., has done that facility’s first installation and STC approval for Universal Avionics terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS) and flight management system (FMS). “Although we have been installing other brands, this is the first time that the Universal (equipment) was installed here at West Palm Beach,” said Brian Wilson, avionics manager.

Rockwell Colllins emerged a winner yesterday with the announcement that the Cedar Rapids, Iowa company’s Pro Line 21 avionics system has been selected as standard for both the Cessna Citation CJ3 and the Gulfstream 150.

The latest option for owners of Challenger 604 business jets is the enhanced version of the Safe Flight AutoPower system, which was installed and certified under a supplemental type certificate by Bombardier Business Aviation Services in Tucson, Ariz. The system will be offered as an option on new production aircraft or a retrofit item on older 604s.

Universal Avionics has unveiled the first phase of its new synthetic-vision cockpit avionics suite, Cockpit 1, which features large flat-panel integrated displays (FPIDs), Super FMS flight management systems, TAWS, Vision 1 systems, UniLink, color LCD radio control units and an integrated electronic chart/checklist system.

ProFlight Proficiency Flight Training of Carlsbad, Calif., will soon be adding a Citation CJ3 simulation device to its training platform. The Fidelity Flight Simulation device includes a Pro Line 21 integrated avionics suite with a three-screen display, APP-85 AFCS, FMS-3000 flight management system and electronic charting capabilities, in addition to a six-axis motion base and a cross-cockpit visual display.

Although WAAS LPV (lateral precision with vertical guidance) approaches have been popping up at airports around the U.S. at an impressive rate, only a handful of business jets are approved to fly the procedures. That’s because most flight management systems don’t yet support the new type of approach and some airplanes might not be approved to do so without costly upgrades.

Honeywell officially launched its MyFlite.com e-commerce Internet site, a Web portal that is designed to serve business aircraft, regional airline and general aviation customers seeking to purchase avionics. Plans for the near future call for the site to be expanded to include flight planning, weather information for pilots, messaging and avionics database downloads.

Universal Avionics has received TSO authorization for its first so-called Super FMS, the Tucson, Ariz. company’s latest generation of flight management systems for business aircraft and regional airliners. An STC was also recently completed for installation of the system in the company’s King Air 350. The first Super FMS certification is for the UNS-1E.
