Appareo and CHC Helicopter are developing an electronic flight bag (EFB) app for the iPad. The app will help standardize CHC’s flight operations around the world, shorten accounts receivable cycles, provide more complete information for crew scheduling and maintenance and eliminate inflight paperwork. It will also provide flight crews with tools for routing, fuel planning and weight-and-balance calculations.
The UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has launched a campaign to educate those operating to and from the 2012 London Olympic Games this summer about the airspace restrictions to be imposed and how to handle them. Major restrictions will be in place centered over London and the Olympic Park from July 14 to August 15, with lesser restrictions for the Paralympic Games from August 16 to September 12.
Arinc Direct announced today that it has added standardized airport noise abatement procedures to its product suite for flight planning, thanks to an agreement with FlightRisk and Whispertrack. As such, the company’s flight-planning suite now includes noise-abatement procedures for more than 22 North American airports, including Teterboro, N.J., and Oakland and Santa Monica, Calif. Arinc Direct claims it is the first flight-planning service to provide this data as standard information for its operators.
Jet Aviation has appointed Abdullah Al-Ghamdi as customer relations manager and sales representative for the company’s aircraft management and charter services in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. Al-Ghamdi, who is based in Jeddah, has held various positions for Jet Aviation Saudi Arabia over the past 20 years, including public relations, sales and business development.
Having started life mainly focused on the airline sector, Arinc (Booth No. N4221) has further expanded its horizons into business aviation, especially so since the U.S.-based group opened its international division in the UK back in 2000. Since the EBACE show in May, Arinc Direct has added more than 50 business aircraft to the international fleet it supports.
The process through which business aircraft passengers and crew can clear U.S. customs and immigration in Shannon, Ireland, has been significantly speeded up thanks to a decision to allow operators to keep their aircraft powered up while on the ground. This means that the procedures can be completed in just 45 minutes from chocks-on to chocks-off, compared with at least 80 minutes when all aircraft power had to be shut down.
Jeppesen’s Mobile FliteDeck went live on Apple’s AppStore on July 25 and had been downloaded more than 3,000 times before Jeppesen formally announced the iPad app’s release three days later. Mobile FliteDeck builds on Jeppesen’s Mobile TC, which displayed worldwide terminal charts on the iPad, with new functionality, including en route charts and geo-referenced (own-ship) position display on GPS-equipped iPads.
FltPlan.com, which claims to be the online flight planning and filing service of choice for three out of four turbine business aircraft operators in the U.S., expanded its coverage to Central America and most of the Caribbean islands. According to the company, pilots flying south of the border can use the same data-entry methods as for a domestic FltPlan.com plan, and the FAA accepts the flight plan, which is in the required ICAO format.
Air Support (Stand 842) of Billund, Denmark, and Aviovision (Stand 859) of Leuven, Belgium, have partnered in providing two-way data connectivity between Air Support’s flight planning and crew briefing software and Aviovision’s Aviobook electronic flight bag (EFB) software.
