NBAA and its maintenance committee released the names of the 34 recipients of the 2011 Maintenance Technical Reward and Career Scholarships (Tracs) at the association’s Maintenance Management Conference, held last week in San Diego.

Gulfstream Aerospace has opened an in-flight support center as part of its customer support call center. The call center, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, handles an average of 60,000 calls per month.
Gulfstream Aerospace opened an in-flight support center, the centerpiece of which is three FlightSafety International-built flight-deck simulators that can mirror what is happening in flight. The tools available in the center will help GulfstreamÕs technical operations department–which runs a 24/7 call center with more than 40 technical and system specialists–troubleshoot in-flight situations faster.
Middle East business aviation support group Nexus is relocating its main operations center to Saudi Arabia in response to violent political upheaval in Bahrain, where its head office has been located. The company, which is a subsidiary of Saudi group MAZ Aviation, will now make its Jeddah facility the focus of its flight-support work for business aircraft operators.
At its annual Whirly-Girls Awards Banquet on Saturday, the international women helicopter pilots organization presented 2011 scholarships totaling more than $50,000 to eight women. The scholarships were as follows:
· American Eurocopter Flight Training–Michelle Bostick, of Lithia, Fla., for an AS350 turbine helicopter transition course.
In the “near future,” FlightSafety (Booth No. 5106) will be adding Pratt & Whitney Canada turboshaft engine training to centers in Curitiba, Brazil; Johannesburg, South Africa; Melbourne, Australia; and Beijing, China. The company currently offers training for the PT6B, PT6C, PT6T and PW206/207 at centers in Dallas/Fort Worth, Wichita, West Palm Beach, Montreal, Toronto, Paris Le Bourget and Singapore.

There are many resources available for SMS implementation. Of course, any operator can peruse FAA Advisory Circular 120-92A for the particulars and use that to create an SMS. Even in regulatory climates where SMS is required, as will be the case in Europe next year, there is no requirement to use a particular system to create an SMS. IS-BAO is internationally recognized, however, and may be easier for authorities to understand.
