NBAA announced that its 2014 Business Aviation Regional Forums will be held at airports in Florida, California and Texas. On Jan. 30, 2014, Signature Flight Support will host a regional forum at Boca Raton (Fla.) Airport. A second regional forum at Van Nuys (Calif.) Airport will be co-hosted by Maguire Aviation (to be acquired by Signature, pending antitrust approvals) and TWC Aviation on June 26. Business Jet Center at Dallas Love Field will host the third forum next September 18.
Cutter Aviation will start work soon on a $1.75 million expansion and renovation project on its facility at New Mexico Albuquerque International Airport. Set to begin next month is a $250,000 modernization of its FBO terminal, including the refurnishing of the lobby, conference room and pilots’ lounge areas. The remaining $1.5 million will be used to construct a new 20,000-sq-ft hangar on property already under the company’s leasehold, capable of storing ultra-long-range business jets.
A U.S. District Court in Jacksonville, Fla., on August 1 sentenced Tyler Pennywitt to one year of probation and 50 hours of community service for deliberately shining a laser pointer at a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office helicopter in June last year.
Sheltair is at LABACE (Stand 4006) providing details on the recent completion of Phase I of its expansion at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport in Florida. The three-phase development project includes 134,806 sq ft (12,534 sq m) of premier hangar and office space on more than 11 acres (4.5 hectares) of land on the west side of the airfield.
This is the first general aviation facility to be constructed on the west side of the airport in more than a decade and has direct access to the new 8,000-foot runway currently under construction.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s first massive open online course, “The Human Factor in Aviation,” will focus on the psychological and physiological elements that contribute to aircraft accidents. The five-week course is free and open to the public. Class begins August 19 and is limited to the first 500 students registered.
Today at the Paris Air Show, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University president Dr. John Johnson and Diamond Aircraft Industries CEO Christian Dries signed a partnership agreement to establish the aircraft manufacturer’s presence at the university’s Daytona Beach campus. Under the agreement, Diamond will expand its current international research and development program and other initiatives working with Embry-Riddle students, staff and faculty from the university’s engineering and aviation colleges, as well as its Eagle Flight Research Center.
Florida is the second-largest state for aviation and aerospace companies in the U.S., and at the 2013 Paris Air Show it is occupying the biggest space at the U.S. Pavilion in Hall 3. We caught up with Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who’s leading the state’s delegation at the show, to find out more about the importance of these industries to Florida and what it plans to do this week at the Paris show.
Northstar Aviation, the lone service provider at Providence, Rhode Island’s Theodore Francis Green International Airport, has just completed its new 5,000-sq-ft terminal.
Rectrix Commercial Aviation Services acquired APP Jet Center’s FBO at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport earlier this week for an undisclosed cash amount. The move consolidates the Massachusetts-based company’s holdings at the Gulf Coast Florida airport while reducing the number of service providers there to two. Rectrix is in the midst of a growth spurt, having purchased fellow Massachusetts-based aviation services and maintenance provider AirFlyte in January.
The Jet Centre at London City Airport (LCY) is set to conclude a $500,000 renovation of its passenger facility next month. Aimed at streamlining the passenger experience, the improvements, such as a relocated entrance adjacent to the car park and a new layout to facilitate interaction between staff and customers, allow the facility now to offer a “60-second plane-to-car” arrival pledge. Other additions include a new crew facility, private guest meeting room and an updated customs and security screening facility.
