The aviation authority at Tampa International Airport has awarded the 20-year lease of one of its two FBOs, formerly operated by Signature Flight Support, to Landmark Aviation. Landmark edged out competitors Signature, Atlantic and Ross Aviation for the right to operate the facility, which pumps nearly two million gallons of fuel a year and houses approximately 20 aircraft.
Sheltair recently completed the expansion of its FBO ramp at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. The addition increases the available parking area by 100,000 sq ft, bringing the total to 230,000 sq ft. The ramp expansion is part of a new terminal development project that includes a 5,000-sq-ft executive facility, a 9,100-sq-ft hangar and nearly 1,700 sq ft of additional office space.
A Florida court has upheld Miami-Dade County’s decision to award Landmark Aviation a 10-year operating lease for its FBO at Miami International Airport (MIA). Former operator Signature Flight Support had filed a lawsuit against the county, alleging that Landmark “knowingly submitted false and/or misleading financial information to meet a request for proposal’s minimum qualifications.”
In the first four months since U.S. Customs operations began at Naples Municipal Airport, 183 aircraft have been cleared through the new facility.
Belgium business aviation services group FlyingGroup (Stand 282) plans to open a new $3.5 million hangar at its Antwerp airport headquarters. The 56,000-sq-ft, frost-free facility will be able to accommodate almost every type of business jet. It will feature an automatic “carousel,” enabling parked business aircraft to be quickly moved indoors. The hangar is to be ready this summer.
Although House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman John Mica (R-Fla.) said last week that “significant progress” was being made in FAA reauthorization talks between House and Senate conferees, both his committee and the House Ways and Means Committee have introduced legislation to provide the 19th short-term extension of FAA funding and programs.

American Airlines returned to a full schedule today at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, now operating at some 90-percent capacity after a tornado hit Concourse C last Friday. The EF-4 tornado blew out a majority of windows and tore away sections of the concourse roof, forcing the airport to close and completely disrupting the operations of 11 airlines.
Following approval by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, privately owned London Oxford Airport announced that it has achieved a 21-percent increase in its usable runway distance. Licensed takeoff distances are now 5,223 and 5,112 feet, respectively. The announcement came after the airport initiated an extensive program to remove obstacles and protect the safety surfaces on the runway approaches and sides.
Executive Wings is expanding its facility at Melbourne International Airport, Fla., to provide a broader range of products and services. The new 30,000-sq-ft facility will more than double the size of the company’s current facility.
