On October 26 the airport will host a celebration marking the grand opening air fair at the facility on that date in 1929. The star-studded aerial event drew 30,000 aviation enthusiasts to the airport that Saturday.

The U.S. Customs Service has revised the list of user-fee airports by adding Edinburgh Airport in Texas and removing Arkansas Aeroplex at Blytheville, Ark. These actions were taken at the request of the airports. The complete list contains 36 airports designated as user-fee facilities.
Extending Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s Runway 13/31 is on hold. Early last month, city officials voted to halt construction at the Florida airport. A 1997 development order called for extending it from 6,930 feet to 9,000 feet, the same as Runway 9L/27R.

Airport Authority today announced plans to build a new 69,000-sq-ft hangar and office complex in anticipation of continued growth at the SLN Aviation Service Center. “The Salina Airport Authority is constructing an all-new hangar and office facility as a key element of our long-term growth strategy,” noted SLN executive director Tim Rogers.

Seven crewmembers are presumed dead after a flight of two U.S. Navy T-39 Sabreliners crashed in the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida Panhandle last month. Navy officials said the two jets (military versions of the Sabreliner 40) were on a routine training flight from Pensacola Naval Air Station when they disappeared from radar about 40 mi south of Pensacola in the Gulf, with three people aboard one airplane and four on the other.
