Trajen FBO Network, which late last year acquired ski-country’s Aspen Base Operation, has further enriched its portfolio of FBOs in another, very different, resort area. Last month, management of the growing chain announced it had purchased the Ranger Jet Center FBO at Kissimmee Gateway Airport near Orlando, Fla., home of Disney World, Universal Studios and several other vacation theme parks.
Hamid Hashemi’s LAH Aviation Holdings purchased Avitat Boca Raton from Muvico Theaters on October 30. Avitat Boca Raton isn’t planning any short-term changes to its 17,000-sq-ft terminal and 75,000 sq ft of hangar space, but Hashemi is planning to build an on-premises high-end restaurant and an office building, according to an LAH spokesman.
In addition to buying Carolina Air Center on South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island in September, Signature Flight Support has also purchased Marathon Flight Services at Kissimmee Gateway Airport in Florida. Signature now has 83 FBOs worldwide, including 47 in the U.S. The Kissimmee FBO features a 7,000-sq-ft canopy that offers passengers and crews protection from the hot Florida sunshine and occasional rainshowers.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, state and local officials are drafting an incentive package to lure fractional provider NetJets to Orlando, Fla. E-mails obtained by the newspaper indicate that a delegation of Orlando leaders planned to visit NetJets’ Columbus, Ohio facility last month.
Plans for a third airport to serve the French capital have advanced with the release of a report naming eight possible sites. Pierre Zémor, the official in charge of the commission of inquiry into the sites, has unveiled the locations, some of which are nearly 100 miles from Paris.
Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport FBO Jetscape Services has secured new investments that will help it launch and develop a chain of FBOs. Jetscape partnered with the Frost Group, an investment firm headquartered in Miami, and is planning to expand the Fort Lauderdale facility and add FBOs in the U.S. and outside the U.S. Jetscape celebrated its fifth anniversary on September 7.
On October 3, per-seat, on-demand air-taxi firm DayJet marked its official grand opening in a ceremony at the Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional Airport. It has been five years in the making, and overcast skies and a little rain didn’t dampen spirits during the festivities, which drew Tallahassee Mayor John Marks, Florida Lt. Gov.
The Salina (Kan.) Airport Authority announced plans to build a new 69,000-sq-ft hangar and office complex in anticipation of continued growth at the SLN Aviation Service Center. Construction of the $6 million project, dubbed Hangar 600, is scheduled to begin this fall, and the facility is expected to be available to tenants in June.
The Jet Center Aviation Group recently announced it has signed a long-term lease with the airport authority at Jacksonville (Fla.) International Airport and will build a new FBO there. The facility will be the fourth for the small Florida chain, which also has facilities at Hollywood International, Miami International and Daytona Beach International Airports.
Federal legislation introduced last month would require surface-to-air missile (SAM) protection, similar to that now used on military transport aircraft, on all of the nearly 7,000 U.S.-registered jet airliners. The bill, coauthored by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), directs that installations begin by the end of the year.
