Netherlands-based AELS, a company that develops sustainable aircraft end-of-life strategies, is offering nine complete Fokker F27s, currently parked at Cologne Airport in Germany, to European engineering schools. The company is making the donation to help train maintenance personnel needed throughout Europe.
Austrian all-cargo carrier Amerer Air plans to become the first customer for the re-launched British Aerospace Regional Aircraft BAe 146QT (Quiet Trader) freighter program. Its aircraft, a Series 200 recently converted by Aerostar in Bacau, Romania, is undergoing painting and final maintenance checks in the UK before delivery. The 146QT will be ferried to Linz, Austria, where Amerer Air has created a major logistics center.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) placed a firm order for seven new 48-seat ATR 42-500s during a November 2 signing ceremony in Karachi. PIA plans to replace its aging Fokker F27s with the Franco-Italian turboprops starting in May. ATR estimates the value of the contract at $100 million.
