Against a backdrop of tumbling stock markets and the most serious banking crisis in a century, Jet Republic has launched what it bills as the most direct challenge yet to NetJets’ dominance of the European fractional ownership market. The company has committed to buying as many as 110 Bombardier Learjet 60XRs. The first 25 of these are under firm order, with deliveries due to begin next October, at a rate of about one each month.

Charter/management and FBO company Key Air has adopted the Key Air name for its three FBOs in Oxford, Conn.; Blaine, Minn.; and Fort Pierce, Fla. The facilities used to be branded as Keystone Aviation Services. All the locations provide FBO and concierge services, aircraft maintenance and refurbishment, gourmet dining, Key Share fractional ownership, aircraft management and charter.

Fractional provider Executive AirShare (EAS) has acquired Fort Worth, Texas-based FSJet, which has an order for 14 Embraer Phenom 100s. Some of these very light jets have been pre-sold and will be managed by Executive Flight Services, which also was recently bought by EAS. The unsold aircraft will be placed in EAS’s fractional ownership program or sold outright and managed by Executive Flight Services.

as the economy lurches from bad to worse news, the aviation industry is holding its breath, waiting to see how this downturn will affect the business jet market and elements of that market such as the fractional share business.

Jet Republic late last month launched a major new European fractional ownership, lease and block-charter program and revealed itself as the previously unidentified customer for up to 110 Bombardier Learjet 60XRs. (It has firm orders for 25 of the aircraft.) The deal is valued at up to $1.5 billion. Deliveries will begin in October next year and will run at a rate of about one aircraft per month.

A substantial majority of fractional aircraft share owners indicated that they are satisfied with their current program. According to the latest Fractional Aircraft Ownership Experience Study, conducted for the fifth year by Aviation Research Group/US of Cincinnati, 92 percent of fractional aircraft customers are satisfied with their current program and program provider.
