The computerized FBO management system field in the U.S. is about to get more crowded as European developer Amsterdam Software is set to export its web-based FBO One system overseas to challenge rival products such as Total FBO, My FBO and FBO Manager.
The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) has upped the ante in the dispute over an airport-sponsored FBO at Chattanooga’s Lovell Field Airport. In a letter sent to Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, NATA president and CEO James Coyne expresses continuing concerns over the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority’s (CMAA) alleged use of more than $10 million in government grants to establish its own FBO to compete with the existing Tac Air facility, to which the CMAA also serves as the landlord.
The UVair FBO Network, an alliance between Epic Aviation and UVair Fuel Program, announced its first five member FBOs this week: Edwards Jet Center in Billings, Mont.; Stevens Aviation in Greer, S.C.; Ambassador Aviation in Dallas; Bizjet International in Tulsa, Okla.; and Million Air Vancouver. The network is composed of “first-class” independent FBOs at U.S. and Canadian airports. To mark this debut, UVair FBO Network facilities will be offering double UVair or Epic Card Bravo reward points per gallon on qualifying transactions from July 1 through September 30.
ATP Jet Center at Daytona Beach International Airport is the latest Signature Select affiliate FBO, Signature Flight Support announced today. Signature Select comprises independent FBOs that adhere to Signature’s systems, service and safety standards, as well as training, sales and marketing processes. Each member company maintains its independent brand with the addition of the Signature Select badge, the FBO chain said. Participating FBOs also offer the Signature Status and Signature TailWins customer loyalty and rewards programs.
Touting its volume purchasing power and its relationship with World Fuel Services, Zurich-based Jet Aviation has introduced a new on-site fuel service intended to pass along savings to its FBO and MRO customers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The program will be offered in tandem with Jet Aviation’s existing fuel program, which is currently excusive to its aircraft management clients.
Huge opportunities in the East offset by tough market conditions in the West is a simplistic but not inaccurate way to summarize the current state of the international FBO business these days. Business aviation traffic has recovered to some extent in Europe, but trading conditions there are still made hard by a combination of economic woes and rising costs.
FBO services provider Sheltair has started construction on a new $13.6 million facility at Florida’s Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL). Situated on 11 acres on the west side of the airport, the first phase of the project is slated to open early next year and will feature more than 134,000 sq ft of hangar and office space. Two more phases set to start by 2014 will eventually increase the size of the FBO to nearly 19 acres and more than double its square footage.
Argus released a new version of TraqPak FBO, a web-based live flight-tracking aircraft activity analysis and market intelligence reporting tool used by FBOs, air charter operators, aircraft management companies and other aviation service providers. New features of TraqPak FBO v2 include the capability to add unique color codes to any aircraft and change the activity views in the program between full map, no map and the standard map and grid side-by-side view.

Fuel supplier Avfuel is looking to add several Asian bases to its branded FBO network to support growing business aviation traffic in the region. The Michigan-based company already has more than 600 dealers across the U.S. and provides a diverse portfolio of products and services, including incentives for pilots using its Avtrip offering.
