For many years, AAR Aircraft Services has operated the sole FBO at Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport, and it seems that activity is heating up at
the field. First, the grand opening of AAR’s new FBO there is planned for
this month, and dignitaries including Oklahoma governor Brad Henry and Oklahoma City mayor Mick Cornett have been invited to participate. In addition, FBO chain Atlantic Aviation is building a new FBO.

Chase Larabee has launched a new Web-based service called to eliminate the problem of pilots showing up at an FBO only to find that the customer service representatives have no record of prearranged fuel, crew and rental cars, catering and hangar storage services.

Two FBOs at Reno-Tahoe International Airport are not going to renew their upcoming leases, and the airport has released a request for proposals (RFP) for a new FBO to replace them. “Reno-Tahoe is the 62nd busiest commercial airport in the country and has a large corporate and general aviation customer base,” the airport explained.

Ocean Sky is accelerating its plans to become a major international business aviation services group with the acquisition this month of FBO operations in Spain and Italy. The UK-based company has just completed the takeover of Spain’s Aviation Handling Assistance (AHA) and has signed a letter of intent to buy a controlling stake in Euroloa, an established FBO at Bologna in Italy.

From the economic high and subsequent crash in 2008, to the slow but steady recovery over the past year, FBOs around the world have had to adjust and respond to the changing market conditions.

Signature Flight Support is working with the UK Border Agency and Technology Store to test a new system allowing processing of international passengers 24/7 at the FBO’s London Luton facility. During the trial, which began in January, arriving passengers don’t have to go to an immigration office but are processed remotely from the Signature FBO via secure video link. The trial will last for six months.

Users cannot comment on FBOs, and only FBOs that are part of’s resource center are included in the ratings system. will honor the five FBOs with the best scores at this year’s NBAA Convention in October.

Million Air Moses Lake and Scottsdale AirCenter have joined the Avfuel network. Moses Lake, located at Washington state’s Grant County International Airport, is part of the Freeman Holdings network of Million Air bases.

Thom Harrow, former president of Volo Aviation, last year formed a new company called Airport Property Partners (APP) and in December purchased four Volo FBOs from Merrill Lynch. The four FBOs–in Fort Pierce and Sarasota, Fla.; Manassas, Va.; and Hayward, Calif.–will be rebranded as APP Jet Centers. Harrow expects new signage for the facilities to be in place by the end of next month.
