The air freight industry needs to quickly adopt the more sophisticated and holistic approaches to security already introduced in the maritime cargo sector, according to Neil Fisher, vice president of Global Security Solutions with IT group Unisys.
Austrian all-cargo carrier Amerer Air plans to become the first customer for the re-launched British Aerospace Regional Aircraft BAe 146QT (Quiet Trader) freighter program. Its aircraft, a Series 200 recently converted by Aerostar in Bacau, Romania, is undergoing painting and final maintenance checks in the UK before delivery. The 146QT will be ferried to Linz, Austria, where Amerer Air has created a major logistics center.
The former Delta Air Lines terminal at Louisville (Ky.), International Airport is now home to a dedicated U.S. Customs office. Arriving international corporate flights can now taxi directly to customs rather than having passengers wait inside the aircraft while parked on the FBO ramp until customs officials arrive.
