Piper Aircraft is launching a new initiative here at NBAA to promote its flagship Meridian single-engine turboprop as a business aircraft. The six-seat, $2.176 million M-Class Meridian features a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-42A 500 shp engine and Garmin G1000 glass panel avionics. Top cruise speed is 260 knots and maximum range is 1,000 nm.
Luma Technologies (Booth No. C11947) has revealed a new LT-4545 LED annunciator panel for the Beechcraft King Air C90, the latest addition to its Lumatech line of LED annunciator panels for the King Air family.
The LT-4545, a drop-in replacement for the existing incandescent annunciators incorporated in the C90 glareshield, will be compatible with newer model C90A, C90GT, C90GTI and C90GTx models.
Cessna Aircraft is looking to beat back encroaching entry-level light jet competition with its new M2. But can a nearly 25-year-old fuselage design do the trick? The market is about to find out. The new Citation M2, a refreshed version of the company’s smallest Model 525–the CitationJet–is nearing certification. A demonstration model is on display here on the NBAA static line.
Piper has selected Hartzell Engine Technologies to provide its I-series cabin heater and ES-series 24-volt/100-amp alternators as standard fit on new Garmin G1000-equipped Seminole piston-twin trainers.
“To support the electrical needs of the latest Piper Seminole’s advanced avionics and systems, Piper Aircraft chose to upgrade it to 24-volt capability,” said Hartzell Engine Technologies president Mike Disbrow.
Today at NBAA 2013, aircraft remanufacturer Nextant Aerospace revealed its next project–a King Air C90 outfitted with GE H80 turboprop engines, Garmin G1000 glass cockpit, zero-timed components, winglets, strakes and new paint and interior. Initial deliveries of the G90XT, a $2 million to $3 million like-new turboprop twin with single-lever power controls, will start later next year.
Ah, that new airplane smell.
Cessna demo pilot Rip Lee and I climb aboard the factory-fresh Grand Caravan EX and I glance over at the Hobbs meter: 4.3 hours total time. Airplanes don’t get much newer than this.
When I pushed the thrust levers forward for takeoff in the newest version of Cessna’s Citation Sovereign, not only did the big jet surge forward but something else interesting happened: at about 75 percent N1 the power levers moved forward on their own and set takeoff power precisely, rather than require Shannon Peterson, senior pilot flight operations, to make the fine adjustments for takeoff power. Shortly thereafter we reached rotation speed, I pitched into the V-bars on the flight director and the powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306Ds launched the Sovereign skyward.
Moscow-based training organization ViraZH has ordered 79 Skyhawks to re-equip its flight schools throughout western Russia. Under an agreement signed today at the JetExpo show at the Russian capital’s Vnukovo-3 Airport, Cessna will start supplying the piston singles in next year’s third quarter and by the time all the deliveries have been made ViraZH will be fielding one of the world’s largest Skyhawk fleets.
Piper is demonstrating two aircraft from its range here at the LABACE show: a Seneca V and a Meridian. The display is being undertaken in conjunction with J.P. Martins Aviacão, the authorized local Piper dealer.
At this tenth annual LABACE show, Embraer has moved from its usual chalet near the show entrance to the other end of the static display ramp, where it has room for one example of every airplane it has in production–the Lineage 1000, Legacy 650, Phenom 300 and Phenom 100–along with the third Legacy 500 in the certification program, as well as a Legacy 450 cabin mockup. The Legacy 500 is making its public debut in Brazil this week.
