Quest Aircraft brought a Kodiak single-engine turboprop equipped with the newly certified Summit interior to EAA AirVenture 2014 this week, along with another Kodiak fitted with the base Tundra interior. The Summit features a club-four layout in the cabin, with one or an optional two seats in the rear of the cabin.

From the standpoint of aerodynamics, there aren’t many ways to make a modern airplane a lot better in a single bound, but as computers gain power smart designers can eke out subtle gains and combine them to extract more performance, which is what the engineering team at Daher-Socata has done with the already successful TBM single-engine turboprop line.

Nextant Aerospace is currently busy developing the G90XT, which applies the company’s remanufacturing concept to the Beechcraft King Air C90. Key changes include General Electric H75 engines, Garmin G1000 avionics, cabin upgrades and aerodynamic modifications.

Lighting manufacturer Luma Technologies (Booth 3018) announced progress on several fronts at EBACE 2014. The Bellevue, Washington-based company focuses on design and manufacture of lighted products using LED and other solid-state technologies. These include caution-warning systems and display panels, switches, annunciators, integrated gear levers and other electro-mechanical controls.

Having taken over the European Hawker Beechcraft MRO business last year, Marshall Aviation Services (MAS) has completed its first King Air flightdeck upgrade, employing the Garmin G1000 avionics system. The King Air 300 modified for a European operator is the first aircraft in the EMEA region to feature this major upgrade.

TBM 900 D-FRAS was the seventh of the upgraded turboprop single to be delivered when it was handed over to Rheinland Air Service last month.

Daher-Socata’s TBM 900 is making its EBACE debut this week here in Geneva, just two months after the upgraded turboprop single was unveiled at the manufacturer’s factory in Tarbes, France. The aircraft at the EBACE static display, registered as D-FRAS, was the seventh TBM 900 to be delivered when it was handed over to Rheinland Air Service on April 10.

Embry-Riddle Skyhawk

Cessna Aircraft Company (SNF 001, 004) of Wichita and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU; NE 021-NE 025) of Daytona Beach, Fla., announced here at Sun ’n’ Fun a long-term agreement for the purchase of 57 Cessna Skyhawk 172s. Deliveries of 29 aircraft are scheduled for this year with the remaining 28 slated for delivery next year. The aircraft will replace the Cessna Skyhawks currently used in the university’s flight training program at its Daytona Beach and Prescott, Ariz. campuses.

Daher-Socata unveiled the latest iteration of its turboprop single, the TBM 900, at company headquarters in Tarbes, France, on March 12. Derived from the TBM 850, itself a variant of the original TBM 700, the new version offers better efficiency and performance without an increase in fuel consumption or engine power, according to the company. The aircraft received both FAA and EASA approval before it was publicly unveiled.

CJ2+ Alpine upgrade

If it isn’t blindingly obvious already that Cessna has made a huge shift to Garmin avionics in its lineup of business jets, then the addition of the G3000 flight deck to the Citation CJ2+ is yet another indicator of where the company is headed. The G3000 upgrade for the CJ2+ is part of a new package, called the Alpine edition, that is not an option for new jets coming off the assembly line in Wichita but is available only as a retrofit. Cessna has also switched the CJ3 to the G3000 system in the new CJ3+, but this is for new jets, not retrofits.
