Honeywell’s TFE731 Zing remote diagnostic service is now available for Hawker jets as an add-on to Honeywell’s maintenance service program (MSP). Zing consists of an avionics box that sends engine data wirelessly via the GSM cellphone network to the operator or service centers as well as Honeywell engine trend-monitoring partner Jet-Care.

A Jan. 20, 2007 incident over the English Channel resulted in the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) recommending the FAA mandate operators adhere to a service bulletin Honeywell issued subsequently in late 2007. Falcon 900B G-HMEV had departed Farnborough en route to Tel Aviv. When the aircraft reached FL130 over the English Channel, there was a loud noise from the rear of the aircraft.

Calgary, Alberta-based CD Aviation Services has joined the list of Honeywell appointed and approved TPE331 major level service centers, the company announced. As such, CDAS provides all maintenance inspections for the TPE331-1 through TPE331-12 models of Honeywell engines. CDAS also performs line maintenance for TFE731-2, -5, -20, -40, -50 and -60 series engines as well as for GTCP 30-90, 36-100/150, RE 100 and RE 220 series APUs.

Stevens Aviation celebrated delivery of the first Lear4Ever-modified Learjet 35 at a ceremony held at the company’s Greenville, S.C. headquarters on August 26. The first modified Learjet 35 was delivered to Steve Bass, who bought the airplane from Stevens after the mods were accomplished.

Since last year’s NBAA Convention, several manufacturers have launched new airplanes or announced derivative designs based on previous models. Although there weren’t a lot of new certifications obtained in the past year, and despite the sagging economic and warning flags presaging slower business aviation activity, manufacturers–new and old alike–haven’t shied away from introducing new products.

The FAA has awarded multiple supplemental type certificates (STCs) to Stevens Aviation for a comprehensive avionics and airframe modification package for the Learjet 35 called the Lear4Ever program. Based on an up-close look at the airplane used for certification, the upgrade appears to deliver on early promises and is sure to pique the interest of operators of the iconic business twinjet.
