Rolls-Royce today announced that it has successfully run the latest E3E (efficiency, environment, economy) core engine as part of its two-shaft research program, which is intended to develop future powerplants for business jets and single-aisle airliners. The latest core build produced “excellent results” during 40 hours of run trials at Stuttgart University’s altitude test facility, exceeding flight-envelope requirements, the company said.

More than 100 hours of testing on a full-scale PW1000G PurePower engine core has so far validated Pratt & Whitney's performance goals for its new generation of commercial jet engines, the company announced today. The core has also demonstrated “excellent” starting and operability characteristics, according to Pratt & Whitney.

Hawker Beechcraft is exhibiting its new King Air C90GTx in the EBACE static park for the first time. The aircraft on display recently completed a demonstration tour of the eastern U.S. showing off its increased performance and efficiency. Users of Pratt & Whitney Canada engines can look forward to access to more training locations and online learning tools becoming available to them in the fourth quarter of this year under an agreement signed by the Montreal-based turbine-engine builder and FlightSafety International earlier this year. MTU Aero Engines held a “last bolt” ceremony to mark a major milestone in the development of Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1524G geared turbofan engine slated to be used on Bombardier C Series. The company developed the engine’s turbine, which will now be sent to Pratt & Whitney to be installed on the first PurePower PW1524G engine. The engine will then begin testing procedures.

Start-up engine manufacturer Price Induction is about to begin endurance testing on its 575-pound-thrust Dgen 380 turbofan by the end of this month. A new architecture on the core engine was validated in December for better performance after 50 hours of testing, a spokesperson from the France-based company told AIN. The A6 standard of the full engine, which incorporates the core changes, has run about 20 hours since.

SIA Engineering (SIAEC) has signed an agreement to participate in Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1000G engine risk-revenue sharing program (RRSP) with a 3-percent stake in the Bombardier C Series engine program and a 1-percent stake in the Mitsubishi Regional Jet engine program.

Before the long-delayed first flight of the A400M, the new airlifter’s TP400 turboprop was flown 18 times on a C-130 flight test bed (FTB) modified and flown by Marshall Aerospace. During a presentation to the UK’s Royal Aeronautical Society last October, Marshall’s chief test pilot Iain Young and flight test engineer Rob Boyle described the challenging task.
