GE Aviation will soon start certification testing of its new 800-shp H80 turboprop engine, derived from the Walter M601. Last summer, GE acquired certain assets of Prague, Czech Republic-based Walter Engines.
Rolls-Royce 250-series engine services provided by Essential Turbines of Dorval, Quebec, will now also be marketed by M7 Aerospace. Under the terms of the agreement, the company will service 250-series customers in the U.S. and in Central and South America. M7 will also market Essential Turbines’ overhaul services to federal, state and local government customers throughout the U.S.
GP Aerospace, a Brazilian startup company established by former Embraer technical director Guido Pessotti, has revealed to AIN plans for a personal very light jet, which would be smaller than currently available very light jets.

This is the basic concept for its Claire (clean air engine) technology program, whose aim is to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 30 percent by 2035. It is making its first step under the umbrella of the European Commission’s Clean Sky joint technology initiative.
Price Induction, a French startup company based in Anglet in the southwest of the country, is here exhibiting two engine mockups (Hall 3 Stand A25). The first is its new 570-pound-thrust DGEN 380 turbofan engine and the other is its Taor contrafan concept. Company executives claim to have raised enough funds to complete the DGEN certification program.
CFM International (Hall 2 Stand B149) is studying a next generation of turbofans to power single-aisle commercial aircraft, hoping to secure a role in future replacements for the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 737. Under the LEAP-X advanced turbofan program, joint venture partners Snecma and General Electric are pursuing innovations such as increased use of composite materials in engines.
In both engineering and visual terms, the open rotor is a huge departure from the turbofans that power today’s aircraft. As such, Rolls-Royce believes its market acceptance will involve a comprehensive understanding of the operational environment in which it will function.
Rolls-Royce’s development of an open-rotor engine for the next generation of midsize airliners has taken a giant leap forward after wind-tunnel tests revealed its design would comfortably meet current Stage 4 noise regulations.
Pratt & Whitney has (Hall 5 B20-B30) frozen the design configuration of the PW1000G geared turbofans for both the Mitsubishi Regional Jet and Bombardier C Series after finishing the final phase of demonstrator testing this past spring on an Airbus A340-600 testbed in and around Toulouse, France.
