GE Aviation has signed an agreement with Solo Aviation naming the MRO an authorized service center for the M601 and H80. It allows Solo Aviation to offer line maintenance, removal and re-installation of engines and LRUs and engine spares for the M601 and H80. Under the terms of the agreement GE Aviation will provide Solo Aviation with material support and training.

Air India will expand MRO capabilities at its Mumbai, India facility to include GE90 engine overhaul. The current schedule calls for the Mumbai facility to be certified for basic GE90 MRO by next year. According to the company, Air India plans to build a new MRO facility in Nagpur, India, that will include GE90 testing capabilities.

A $50 million aircraft engine research and technology center–a joint project between GE Canada and StandardAero–is being built in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on property leased from the Winnipeg Airports Authority. The project is expected to employ 10 people initially, with the potential to grow to 50 employees within five years.

Protectionists have sounded the familiar alarms over GE’s joint venture with China’s Avic, formalized during January’s state visit to Washington by Chinese president Hu Jintao. The venture, an equal partnership between GE Aviation and Avic, will involve the development and marketing of integrated, open-architecture aviation electronic systems to the global commercial aerospace industry for new aircraft programs, according to GE.

Funes, Argentina-based Alagro Fumigaciones has been named a GE Aviation-authorized service center for the M601 and H80 turboprop engines. As part of the agreement, Alagro Fumigaciones will offer line maintenance, removal and re-installation of engines and LRUs, and engine spares for the M601 and H80 engine series. Smyrna Air Center has authorized Stevens Aviation to participate in the Power 90 upgrade program. Under the terms of the agreement Stevens Aviation is authorized to install the GE M601 engine on 90-series King Airs. Smyrna Air Center holds the rights to the Power 90 conversion STC.

Officials with GE Aviation announced the launch of the TechX engine at NBAA on Monday, but weren't about to go into detail until Bombardier made its formal announcement of the Global 7000 and 8000.
