General Electric (Hall 4 Stand B7) expects its revenues to grow to a record $12.8 billion in 2006–almost 8 percent more than last year. The U.S. engine maker said here that services are driving the increase.

Sales continue to be brisk, with 1,600 CFM56 orders last year and an expectation for approximately as many this year. Meanwhile, the order book for the GEnx has swelled to almost 600 engines.

Manufacturers should be required to determine if engine restart capability exists when core rotation speed drops to zero after high-power, high-altitude flameouts, according to the NTSB. For airplanes susceptible to engine core lock, manufacturers should be required to provide design or operational means to ensure restart capability.

–The first Ukrainian airplane built with CAD-CAM technology continues to defy the odds, and not only in a technical sense. The only aircraft built in the former Soviet Union without direct public funding, the 70-seat An-148 flew for the first time on December 17 in the midst of the Orange Revolution, raising a symbol of stability in a country rocked by political unrest.

All six General Dynamics Service Centers have joined General Electric’s CF34 service center network. General Dynamics service facilities are located in Las Vegas; Minneapolis; Dallas; Appleton, Wis.; Westfield, Mass.; and West Palm Beach, Fla. The CF34 powers Challengers.

McKinney Aerospace has been designated an authorized GE service center for engine work. Located on Collin County Regional Airport in McKinney, Texas, the company now has the capacity to perform in-house inspections on GE’s CF34, which powers the Challenger 601 and 604.

General Electric has begun studies on a new engine for application on a proposed new 50-seat jet from Embraer. Rolls-Royce AE3007s now power the Brazilian manufacturer’s 50-seat ERJ 145 and 37-seat ERJ 135, the backlogs for which stand at their lowest levels since the late 1990s.

While many European companies still view business jets as “corporate barges” rather than genuine business tools, statistics show they are more likely to warm to corporate/executive shuttles. Perhaps this is because of a shuttle’s more utilitarian purpose as a transporter of a company’s employees rather than just the company’s executives.
