It’s business as usual at the Million Air FBO at San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) in Southern California, following an FBI document-gathering raid of airport offices last week. On June 30, a grand jury report raised questions about how improvements to the airport were managed by Scot Spencer, “a convicted felon who served time for bankruptcy fraud in a federal penitentiary,” according to the report.

With the addition of its newest facility at California’s Fresno Yosemite International Airport, Signature Flight Support is embarking on a new way to operate FBOs–a management contract with the owner of the facility. Given that many major hotel chains are operated this way, it’s perhaps a little surprising that large FBO chains haven’t already tried this method.

South River Aviation recently purchased assets of the former Sonoma Jet Center at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport in Northern California. South River is retaining the FBO’s name, and general manager John Bridi and the 14 full- and part-time employees are staying on board. South River’s Joshua and Julia Hochberg are planning to expand Sonoma Jet Center’s maintenance business and upgrade the appearance of the FBO.

Million Air’s newest franchise FBO at San Bernardino International Airport in Southern California held a grand opening ceremony on August 6. The former Norton AFB closed in 1994, and growing industrial use of local land by companies such as Stater Brothers Markets, Mattel, Kohl’s and Pep Boys Auto stimulated the local airport authority’s desire to improve the airport infrastructure.
