Deer Jet, Asia’s largest business jet operator, is gradually transforming from a regional operator to a global one as it approaches its 20th anniversary. The Beijing-based company now has a fleet of 85 aircraft, based not only in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, but also in the U.S., Dubai and Moscow. According to Zhang Peng, who was promoted to president of the company in August, Deer Jet’s international flight operations have increased by 80 percent over 2013, now up to 6,800 annual flight hours to more than 300 airports worldwide.

Dassault recently wrapped up flight-testing that would see its Falcon 7X become the first certified business jet to operate at the world’s highest commercial airport–14,470-foot-high Daocheng Yading Airport in China’s Sichuan province. The certification effort is intended to meet demand in Western China for business jets capable of operating at small high-altitude airports in the region.

The new board of directors of the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA, Booth H527), elected last year, is focusing on reinvigorating the organization to better serve its members and business aviation participants in Asia.

“When we took over in April we decided on core themes,” said David Best, president of Asia Pacific for BBA Aviation and vice-chairman of AsBAA. “We’re working through the issues, how to support the members and working with our sister organizations. This led to a number of projects to be pursued.”

NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen and Shanghai Airport Authority president Li Derun signed a memorandum of agreement at ABACE 2014 today to keep the annual Asian business aviation show at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport until at least 2021. The agreement doubles the life of the original five-year arrangement signed by the parties in June 2011. NBAA organizes the event in partnership with the Shanghai Airport Authority, with the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) co-hosting the event.

AgustaWestland and Sino-US Intercontinental of China celebrated the grand opening of a joint regional business headquarters in Shanghai on April 9. In September, Sino-US Intercontinental was appointed an official non-exclusive distributor for AgustaWestland civil helicopters in China, but not including Hong Kong and Macau. Sino-US Intercontinental Helicopter Investment is part of Shanghai Zenisun Investment Group, a real estate and general aviation company that has been selling and operating helicopters in China since 2006.

For the third successive year in recent times, the Asian Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (ABACE)–which is organized by NBAA in conjunction with the Shanghai Airport Authority, the Asian Business Aviation Association and the Shanghai Exhibition Center–will return to Shanghai’s Hongqiao Airport. It will run from April 14 to 17 at Shanghai Hawker Pacific’s Business Aviation Centre FBO, and will feature a 43,000-sq-ft (4,000-sq-m) hangar, a 52,000-sq-ft (4,800-sq-m) exhibitor pavilion and extensive ramp area for the static display.
