The 14th Annual Great Lakes Aviation Conference, which includes a maintenance symposium for technicians, is being held February 14-15 at The Lansing Center in Lansing, Mich. The symposium offers sessions that can be used to log eight hours of training to meet annual Inspection Authorization renewal requirements.

Immaculate Flight launched aircraft cleaning and detailing services today at six new airports in the greater Detroit and Toledo metro areas. These include Toledo Express, Detroit Metro Wayne County, Coleman A. Young Municipal, Ann Arbor Municipal, Willow Run (Ypsilanti) and Oakland County International Airports. The additions mark the company’s second regional location in Michigan, while also adding Ohio as the company’s 11th state where it provides service. With these openings, Immaculate Flight’s network now exceeds 80 locations in the U.S.

FBO Rapid Air at Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Mich., has changed its name to Grand Rapids Air Center. The FBO participates
in Air BP’s Bravo rewards program and is a charter operator and maintenance provider. “The name ‘Grand Rapids Air Center’ better defines our geographical location and the Western Michigan market we serve,” said president Paul Heule.

Grand Rapids, Mich. FBO Rapid Air held a grand opening of its newly renovated facility in late February. Rapid Air features a passenger lounge with locally made Herman Miller furniture and a Dutch Douwe Egbert coffee bar, theater room with surround sound, pilot snooze room, private shower, and conference room with audio-visual and teleconferencing capability.

Recovery efforts are continuing today for the wreckage of a 1981 Cessna Citation II that crashed into Lake Michigan soon after takeoff from Milwaukee late yesterday afternoon, killing all six aboard. The dead included two doctors and two specialists from the University of Michigan Health System, who were in Milwaukee harvesting human lungs for transplant.

On the first Saturday in February, despite record warmth, only two bicyclists and a Chicago police car took to the sloshy paths at what used to be Meigs Field. The former GA airport has been reincarnated as Northerly Island, a wildlife grounds. The former terminal houses exhibits on flowers, birds and a poster of Northerly from 1931. There is no mention, inside or out, that an airport occupied the site.

In a project dubbed “Operation Good Cheer,” corporate and private pilots, aircraft owners, FBOs and other volunteers helped deliver more than 14,000 presents last month to nearly 5,000 children in foster care, group homes and residential treatment facilities across Michigan.

Atlas Pilatus Center, an authorized distributor for the Pilatus PC-12 in the Northeast U.S., has appointed Aerodynamics (ADI) an authorized Pilatus PC-12 satellite service center. Based at Oakland County International airport in Pontiac, Mich., ADI will provide parts distribution and service for PC-12 owners in the Michigan area. ADI employs 165 people and has four hangars with 136,037 sq ft under roof. The company operates 24 hours a day.
