The Houston City Council voted in January to change the name of Houston’s oldest airport from Ellington Field to Ellington Airport in an effort to “broaden the future use of the airport with high hopes it will grow as a business asset.” Ellington offers much less congestion than nearby Hobby Airport with its busy airline operations and it is served by two FBOs, Volo Aviation and Southwest Airport Services.

Bell 206 JetRanger, Sabine Pass, Texas, Dec. 11, 2008–Five people were killed when the Rotorcraft Leasing JetRanger crashed into the Gulf of Mexico eight miles south of Sabine Pass. The flight was en route to an offshore oil platform in VMC. The commercial pilot took off from Sabine Pass and failed to make the first 15-minute position report required by company policy.

In a project that adds more than 45,000 sq ft to its Love Field facility, General Dynamics Aviation Services is expanding its Dallas Service Center by leasing a hangar from Signature Flight Support. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Air Culinaire, the Arlington, Va.-based business aviation caterer, announced the January 1 opening of a facility at Dallas Love Field. Air Culinaire COO Cliff Smith said the company will take over the food service operation currently handled by Signature Flight Support and will be providing catering throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
