Gulfstream announced plans on Tuesday to build a new $33 million aircraft paint facility on the southwest side of its Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport headquarters. “The announcement came up unexpectedly as a result of a Savannah Economic Development Agency [SEDA] board meeting that happened that day,” a company spokesman told AIN.
Two U.S. humanitarian aid workers who contracted Ebola while working in Africa were flown from Liberia to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta aboard a specially equipped aeromedical Gulfstream GIII operated by Cartersville, Ga.-based Phoenix Air. Dr. Kent Brantly was transported to the U.S. on Saturday, August 2, and Nancy Writebol was flown back today, arriving early this afternoon at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Ga. Both worked for aid group Samaritan’s Purse.
Atlanta-based Precision Aviation Group (PAG) has named Adrienne Robinson vice president of business development. Before her new appointment, Robinson served PAG in dual roles: she joined the company in 2012 and three months later was asked to take on the additional role of president of Precision Aviation Services (PAS) in Peachtree City, Ga. During her leadership of PAS, Robinson negotiated an agreement with Airbus Helicopters designating PAS as an AHI Service Center, the first in the Atlanta market.
AAR’s Duluth repair station has completed its 100th aircraft since it re-opened an abandoned 188,000-sq-ft hangar in November 2012. Today, AAR Aircraft Services Duluth supports three lines of aircraft maintenance and 305 jobs. The Duluth facility is currently dedicated to the single-aisle Airbus fleet, exclusively servicing the A319, A320 and A321. AAR is on track to open a fourth line of maintenance in September, creating another 70 positions.
The FAA issued a special ATC procedure Notam last week for the upcoming Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga. The Notam becomes effective April 7 and requires slot reservations for any of the Augusta-area airports: Bush Field, Daniel Field, Aiken Municipal and Thomson-McDuffie County.
Volo Aviation has been awarded the contract to manage the FBO at MidCoast Regional Airport at Wright Army Airfield, a joint public- and military-use airport located within Fort Stewart, 35 miles from Savannah. In 2007, several local agencies partnered to build a 13,825-sq-ft terminal to house both the military and civilian operations at the airport.
Gulfstream Aerospace will expand its service center at Brunswick Golden Isles Airport in Brunswick, Ga. The company signed a lease with the Brunswick and Glynn County Development Authority to develop a $25 million, 110,000-sq-ft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility near its two existing hangars. The new facility will include a 73,000-sq-ft hangar that will accommodate six to nine large-cabin aircraft. The expansion is expected to create 100 jobs, a 50-percent gain on Gulfstream Brunswick’s current workforce.
Gulfstream Aerospace plans to boost its aircraft service and support organization by building a new worldwide product support distribution center near its Savannah, Ga. headquarters, the company announced today. The new building is expected to be completed early next year and will consolidate the company’s worldwide material distribution departments. When completed, it will house more than $900 million in parts and materials inventory.

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) has wrapped up a $29 million expansion project known as the North Aviation Development. The project, funded by FAA entitlement grants and airport revenues, saw the realignment of Gulfstream Road to a newly built 1,200-foot tunnel under Taxiway A, which was extended 1,800 feet to a total of 9,302 feet. The additional length allowed the taxiway to connect with the newly built new 4,033-foot taxiway H, which now links Gulfstream Aerospace’s new $500 million campus expansion to the rest of the airport.
