Luanda, Angola-based Best Fly Group has formed a partnership with Spanish company Corjet Maintenance (owned by Gestair) to create start-up company Best Fly Maintenance. Best Fly Maintenance will benefit from Corjet Maintenance’s EASA Part 145 knowledge and experience, enabling the newly formed business to offer maintenance solutions in Angola and the surrounding region.
Earlier this year Gestair (Booth 755) opened a new FBO facility in the former authorities pavilion at Madrid-Barajas airport, which is where all the Spanish capital’s business aviation traffic is now directed. Previously those flights had operated into Torrejón air base, but that operation has been closed down. Gestair, with 35 years experience providing business aviation services, won the initial five-year contract from AENA (Spanish airports and air navigation authority) to manage the Barajas executive terminal.
In response to the closure of Madrid Torrejon Airport to general aviation traffic, and the relocation of private aviation operations to Madrid-Barajas Airport, 20 minutes from the city center, Spain-based ground handler Gestair won the tender from the Spanish airport authority to establish a 24-hour FBO at the airport in the executive terminal it will share along with ground services provider Multiservicios Aeroportuarios. The new terminal will feature passenger lounges, meeting rooms and dedicated parking.
Jet Aviation has signed agreements with both Embraer and Bombardier to boost spare parts availability in its facility at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport. By storing more parts at the Russian capital’s busiest business aviation airport, The company said it aims to minimize aircraft downtime during AOG circumstances by ensuring a broad selection of spares are on-site and immediately available to operators when needed.
Spanish business aviation group Gestair (Stand 450) and the country’s flag carrier Iberia have joined in a 50-50 joint venture to create Corjet Maintenance. Corjet specializes in maintenance of business jets, as well as providing logistics and parts support.
Spain’s business aviation sector has changed substantially over the last few years with the established operators maintaining their businesses and start-up companies making an impact on a fast-growing market. But they have not been spared by the ongoing financial crisis that has seen an annual 30 percent fall in the number of hours flown.

Line and base maintenance for the Dassault Falcon 2000 series can now be accommodated at the Jet Aviation London Biggin Hill facility. Jet Aviation London already offers Dassault Falcon 900 series service. According to the company, that facility has recently completed a 3A+ inspection on a Falcon 2000 with the assistance of Jet Aviation Basel.
In the not-too-distant past, Spain’s business aviation sector consisted of one major operator, Gestair, and a sprinkling of smaller companies each operating barely a handful of aircraft. In the last two years the picture has changed dramatically, with the established companies maintaining their prominence and new companies making an impact on the scene despite the financial crisis.
Corjet Europe of Madrid, Spain, has been named a Gulfstream-authorized warranty repair facility. Corjet Europe is a joint venture between Iberia and Gestair, both of which are based in Spain.
