Spanish aircraft charter and management firm Executive Airlines has seen its sales rocket from $12 million in 2005 to more than $26 million last year, and implementation of current plans should result in sales of more than $47 million this year.
Gestair Private Aviation has announced a $115 million investment over the next four years to further expand its 30-aircraft fleet. The Spanish-based company is also planning a new main- tenance hangar. Also anticipated is FBO network expansion and company acquisitions abroad.
Spain traditionally has lagged in Europe’s business aviation market. Although its fleet of around 80 jets and 42 turboprops for corporate or private use is the continent’s fifth biggest, Gruppo Gestair, Europe’s third largest operator, dominates and Spain commands only about 3 percent of the continent’s market.
The one unmistakable message that came out of this year’s Asian Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (ABACE) is that business aviation in Asia is no longer merely a talking point. While the region still faces challenges, there is progress on every front and aircraft are moving passengers throughout the region in unprecedented numbers.
Raytheon Premier I, Deauville, France, Dec. 6, 2006–The Spanish-registered Premier, owned and operated by Gestair Executive Jet, overran the runway on landing at Deauville Saint-Gatien Airport. No injuries or serious damage to the airplane were reported. Rain and a gusty crosswind were reported at the time of the incident.
A Raytheon Premier I business jet operated by Spain-based Gestair overran the runway while landing at Deauville, France, on December 6 at about 1:20 p.m. local time. There were no injuries to the four occupants–two pilots and two passengers–and no damage to the airplane, according to Gestair. At Deauville Saint-Gatien airport, Runway 12/30 is 8,360 feet long.
Plenty of major players have voiced high expectations for the eventual flowering of business aviation in the Asia/Pacific region, but Jet Aviation is one of just a few that has put its money where its mouth is. The Swiss-based group established a bridgehead facility here in Singapore a decade ago, and has stayed the course despite receiving little encouragement from the marketplace–until recently.
Gestair makes a fair claim to being Spain’s leading business aviation group, with about 60 percent of the national executive charter market. It also claims to be the third-ranking operator for the whole of Europe in terms of the number of aircraft operated and passengers carried.
Barcelona, Spain-based charter operator Executive Airlines is offering new services such as third-party handling, U.S. visa waiver processing and operations to and from London City Airport.
The firm is now offering handling services for third-party operators at Barcelona and Madrid airports. These services will be expanded by the recent purchase of Aeroplanning, a Madrid-based corporate flight planning specialist.
To address the shortage of qualified business aircraft maintenance technicians, the UK’s Glennair Training Centre is stepping up its capabilities in the provision of both mechanical and avionics courses for executive aircraft operator or service center personnel. Formed in 1980, Glennair (Booth No. 1113) employs specialist instructors who provide training at the company’s headquarters and courses at the customers’ premises.
