Esterline CMC Electronics (Booth No. 4963) has acquired an exclusive technology license for the L-3 Communications SmartDeck integrated avionics system, CMC president Greg Yeldon announced yesterday. Terms of the agreement between L-3 Communications (Booth No. 4308) and CMC, signed earlier this month, were not disclosed.

Garmin, the Olathe, Kan. com­pany (Booth No. 6456) that pioneered glass cockpits and synthetic-vision technology in small general aviation airplanes, is stepping up into the bizav big leagues with a Part 25 integrated avionics system called G5000 that will square off against business jet cockpits from industry heavyweights Honeywell and Rockwell Collins.

Avidyne has received approval from Brazil’s Agência Nacional De Aviação Civil (ANAC) for retrofit installation of the DFC90 autopilot in Brazilian-registered Entegra-equipped Cirrus aircraft. The DFC90 is an attitude-based digital autopilot system designed as a slide-in replacement for the S-Tec 55X autopilot in existing Entegra-equipped Cirrus SR20s and SR22s.

Garmin (Booth No. 6456) has received FAA STC approval of its helicopter terrain awareness and warning system for the GNS 430W/530W navcoms. The new HTAWS is available ­immediately as an option on newly purchased systems or as a field upgrade for current owners.

Star Navigation Systems Group is offering its newest version of the Star In-flight Safety Monitoring System (Star-ism). “Most people are familiar with the black box in airliners.
