Duncan Aviation has received a supplemental type certificate for installation of Aircell's cabin telecommunications router, which supports Wi-Fi access in the cabin for Aircell's Gogo Biz inflight Internet service. The STCs are applicable for the Hawker 800XP and 850XP, and the Falcon 900, 2000 and 2000EX EASy.

As demand to surf the Internet in flight grows, Duncan Aviation continues to develop supplemental type certificates (STC) to do just that. The MRO’s latest STC is for the installation of Aircell’s cabin telecommunication router, which provides Wi-Fi access in the cabin for Gogo Biz in-flight Internet service. The new STCs apply to the Hawker 800XP/850XP/900XP and Falcon 2000/2000EX EASy.

Delta Air Lines plans this month to start installing onboard Wi-Fi on 223 regional jets flown by Delta Connection carriers, making Delta the first U.S. carrier to deploy the service across its entire mainline and dual-class regional fleets.

To promote its airborne Internet access system, Aircell offered NBAA showgoers a free trial of the Gogo inflight Internet service to try on the way home. Available on many airlines, Gogo offers connection speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps, likely as fast as many DSL services for home use.

There are now more ways than ever to connect to the Internet in flight thanks to the growing number of airborne data services available for installation in business jets. From Aircell’s GoGo Biz and Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband services to ViaSat’s Yonder Broadband and others, Web-addicted passengers no longer have to worry about being able to log on after takeoff.

Flexjet last month announced plans to offer Aircell Gogo Biz in-flight Wi-Fi connections as a standard amenity on its fractional program aircraft at no additional charge to shareowners. The system will allow Flexjet customers to use any Wi-Fi device to access the Web at broadband speeds while they fly. Installation of GoGo Biz will begin on Flexjet’s 25 Challenger 300s and seven Challenger 604/605s.

Fractional provider NetJets will equip more than 250 of its midsize and large-cabin aircraft with Aircell GoGo Biz high-speed Internet service, with installations set to begin this month.

Aircraft charter hybrid XOJet said it will install airborne high-speed Internet to its fleet of five Bombardier Challenger 300s and 19 Cessna Citation Xs. XOJeT is currently installing Wi-Fi-capable Aircell high-speed Internet systems and expects that more than 70 percent of its fleet will be equipped by the end of this month, with the rest scheduled for completion next month.

Aircell announced the first installation of its ATG 5000 high-speed Internet system aboard a California-based Gulfstream G200 operated by charter provider FlightWorks. Gulfstream’s Dallas service center performed the hardware installation, which added a stand-alone ATG 5000 unit and two antennas on the aircraft belly.
