The typical business airplane at different points in its lifetime will receive overhauled engines, a refurbished interior and more than a few coats of fresh paint, along with a host of required periodic maintenance checks and upgrades, all of which constitute the obligatory costs of operating a business jet or turboprop.
Ground proximity warning system
In the fall, CAE SimuFlite is scheduled to have its first Citation X simulator ready for initial and recurrent pilot and mechanic training. The FAA level-D simulator, installed at SimuFlite’s Dallas facility, is equipped with a Honeywell SPZ-7600 digital autoflight control system, Universal UNS-1D flight management system with GPS, Enhanced GPWS, TCAS II and moving-map display.

Honeywell last month announced that it has delivered more than 30,000 enhanced ground proximity warning systems (EGPWS), placing the safety gear in rarefied air among the top sellers of all time in stand-alone avionics units.
Phoenix-based Honeywell announced last month it had received TSO approval for phase IV, the latest version of the Primus Epic control display system/retrofit (CDS/R). The phase IV upgrade will allow the CDS/R to display electronic charts and maps, as well as satellite weather. In addition to the electronic charts and weather, Honeywell said the CDS/R offers an 8- by 10-inch full-color screen, GPS, satcom capability, TCAS and EGPWS.
CAE SimuFlite is set to begin offering Citation X technical training by this fall. Initial training duration is 10 days, while the recurrent program lasts five days. The company’s Citation X level-D-qualified flight simulator allows hands-on operations during training, including engine run-up, taxi and systems operation.
Sikorsky plans to make Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems (EGPWS) standard equipment on all future production S-76s and S-92s. A Sikor-sky and Honeywell team originally developed EGPWS for helicopter applications using the S-76, and after FAA approval in 2001 it was listed as an option for the model.
