Gulfstream Aerospace recently delivered the 600th Gulfstream jet equipped with the PlaneView cockpit, nine years after the flight deck entered service. The milestone aircraft was the 362nd G550 to be delivered. In addition, Gulfstream has installed more than 250 synthetic vision systems and enhanced navigation systems. Meanwhile, the company is in the last phases of certifying PlaneView II, the “advanced” flight deck that will make its debut on the Gulfstream G650, which is expected to enter service later this quarter.
Gulfstream Aerospace has enrolled more than 140 aircraft in its Flight Operations Risk Management Service (Forms) program, providing operators with access to data that can reduce operational hazards. Among its benefits, Forms data can be used to analyze airport-specific approach procedures that can challenge pilots. The larger the Forms database becomes, the better Gulfstream is able to identify trends and implement corrective measures through education and training, it said. Gulfstream’s Forms database now includes operational details on more than 25,000 flights.
Gulfstream Aerospace named 32-year aviation industry veteran Joseph Rivera as its director of international operations. In his new position, he will be based in Savannah and will oversee Gulfstream’s three international service centers in Beijing; Luton, England; and Sorocaba, Brazil. Luton and Sorocaba are currently in operation, while Gulfstream Beijing is expected to begin operations soon. “Joseph’s breadth of experience and leadership skills will greatly benefit our customer service organization,” said Gulfstream product support president Mark Burns.

The formerly dominant North American market for large business jets is showing signs of regaining market share, according to U.S. manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace (Stand 7061).
Here at the EBACE show on Sunday, Gulfstream said 60 percent of its first-quarter sales came from the U.S. compared to 40 percent for international sales. Last year at this time, 70 percent of Gulfstream sales were outside the U.S.
Gulfstream Aerospace will hold its biennial operators conference from June 11 to 14 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. Customers and suppliers attending the conference will receive updates on Gulfstream programs and technical information on the company’s aircraft. The event also serves as a forum for feedback and ideas. “Subject-matter experts at Gulfstream and our suppliers will provide the maintenance, operational and technology updates,” said Gulfstream product support president Mark Burns.
First-quarter revenues at General Dynamics’s aerospace division, which includes Gulfstream Aerospace and Jet Aviation, climbed by 20 percent from a year ago, to $1.62 billion, while segment profits ascended 17.8 percent to $271 million.
Gulfstream Aerospace has STC approval for its Elite G450 and G550 interior package, which includes a streamlined passenger service unit, electronic seats and the Gulfstream cabin management system. It features leather ledges, less veneer and more high-gloss painted surfaces. The sidewall tables in the club seating area can be electronically activated and ambient LED lighting accents the edges of the curved credenza, the table box and the galley. Lighting is automatically activated in the drawers, cabinets and closets for easy accessibility.
California-based private equity firm Levine Leichtman Capital Partners finalized its acquisition of ground-support equipment manufacturer Tronair (Booth P413) earlier this month. The U.S. company makes more than 1,000 products, including towbars, electric tugs, tripod jacks, de-icer carts, lavatory servicing equipment, potable water carts and engine inlet covers for more than 300 business aircraft, military aircraft and airliners. Tronair was founded in 1971 as Danair, a division of the Dana flight department, and first manufactured towbars for Learjets, Falcons and the Gulfstream Is.
China’s newest charter operator–AllPoints Jet–ordered a pair of Gulfstream jets today at Abace. The G450 and G550 will be delivered in the first quarter of 2013 to the company’s base at Chengdu International Airport, from where AllPoints provides charter, management and maintenance. Gulfstream also celebrated deliveries of a midsize G200 to Hong Kong-based Asia Jet and a G450 to Beijing-based Nanshan Jet at the show.
