Airbus Military’s partner on the C295 AEW program was revealed here yesterday as IAI Elta Systems. The pair has been working on the airborne-early-warning project for nearly a year.
United Aircraft, builder of the Sukhoi Superjet SJ100, is considering a corporate transport version of the regional jet, which would serve the niche between large business aircraft such as Gulfstream’s G550 and the Boeing BBJ. The proposal stems from inquiries about the potential for a business jet variant of the aircraft, scarcely three months after its service entry.
Honeywell’s Mechanical Protection Plan (MPP), an extended repair and replacement program, is expected to be available starting the third quarter of this year. Designed to avoid downtime while driving predictable and manageable maintenance costs, the program will cover environmental and cabin pressure control systems on select Gulfstream and Pilatus models.
Gulfstream Aerospace is well on its way to achieving certification of two new jets this year–the G250 and G650–as utilization of the nearly 2,000-strong, in-service Gulfstream fleet grows, new orders exceed deliveries and the product support business continues to expand.
Some 11,103 business jets worth $240 billion will be delivered over the next 10 years, according to the second annual industry forecast published yesterday by Montreal-based business aviation services firm Zenith Jet. The exhaustive 40-page “bottom up” forecast estimates compounded annual growth of 15 percent for new business jet shipments from now until 2016, the predicted peak year with 1,468 delivered jets worth $31.6 billion.
Gulfstream Aerospace has opened an in-flight support center as part of its customer support call center. The call center, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, handles an average of 60,000 calls per month.
Gulfstream Aerospace recently expanded its product support organization with the opening of an In-Flight Support Center, the centerpiece of which is three FlightSafety International-built flight-deck simulators that can mirror what is happening in flight.
CRS Jet Spares will be establishing a footprint in Asia over the coming year. “We have been involved in providing our services to the Asia region for a long time and now believe the timing is right to establish a footprint in the region,” said Armando Leighton, Jr, CRS Jet Spares founder and CEO. According to Leighton, the plan will be developed over the next 12 months and implemented in phases.
General Dynamics Aerospace Group ended 2010 with encouraging numbers that Jay Johnson, chairman and CEO of parent company General Dynamics, believes will carry the Savannah-based OEM through 2011.
The Gulfstream G350 and G450 received Transport Canada approval to operate at their maximum cruise altitude of 45,000 feet. Transport Canada normally restricts flight to below 41,000 feet unless special conditions are met to ensure against rapid cabin depressurization. To achieve this Gulfstream added its automatic emergency descent mode (AEDM) feature to the two jets.
