All three Long Island (N.Y.) Jet Centers (LIJC) will soon get major facelifts. The three separate projects are expected to cost about $50 million, collectively, with work starting early next year and taking up to three years to finish. Long Island Jet Centers include facilities at Francis Gabreski Airport (FOK) in Westhampton Beach; MacArthur Airport (ISP) in Islip; and Republic Airport in Farmingdale.
Less than two years after breaking ground on its second paint facility, Wing Aviation has announced that principal construction on its third paint hangar has been completed at the company’s Lone Star Executive Airport facility located just north of Houston in Conroe, Texas.
Business Jet Center’s Oakland, Calif. FBO added a new 15,000-sq-ft hangar and nearly 33,000 sq ft of ramp space to its leasehold. The FBO, which opened in 2003 in the renovated 1920s airport terminal building on the North Field side of the airport, now features more than 100,000 sq ft of hangar, maintenance and office space.
Arcadia Aviation’s new 23,000-sq-ft hangar facility at Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport in Martinsburg, W.Va., was finished in the middle of last month, just in time for the reopening of the airport’s 8,800-foot ILS runway. Arcadia’s new hangars have doors that are 28 feet high (to accommodate the Global Express and G550), offices and maintenance shop facilities in each hangar and enhanced privacy and security.
Both FBOs at London Luton Airport are making plans to expand their facilities. Business aviation traffic levels and the average size of aircraft handled are continuing to increase significantly at the gateway, which is 30 mi north of the UK capital.
SheltAir completed interior renovations at its St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Fla. FBO and is planning to build 60,000 sq ft of new hangars at the airport. While SheltAir also renovated its Farmingdale, N.Y. FBO terminal, it is planning to build new terminal and hangar facilities there to serve the Northeast market. Also on Long Island, SheltAir upgraded the interior and exterior of its Westhampton Beach, N.Y.
The Salina (Kan.) Airport Authority announced plans to build a new 69,000-sq-ft hangar and office complex in anticipation of continued growth at the SLN Aviation Service Center. Construction of the $6 million project, dubbed Hangar 600, is scheduled to begin this fall, and the facility is expected to be available to tenants in June.
Signature Flight Support expects to open its new 74,000-sq-ft hangar at London Luton Airport this month. Alongside the new facility is a 10,000-sq-ft office unit, and about half of this space has been rented to based corporate operators to date.
A further 5,000 sq ft of accommodation is also being built for completion by the end of July, and this will be available for stores or more offices.
Just in time for the cold winter months, Million Air Toronto at Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport (CYKZ) has completed its new 38,600-sq-ft hangar at a cost of C$3.5 million. The seven-month project started last December and was finished in July. One of the hangar’s two 17,000-sq-ft bays is leased by Flight Exec, a charter/management company that relocated from Toronto City Centre Airport.
Hangar space in Silicon Valley increased by 47,000 sq ft this summer when San Jose Jet Center opened its new terminal/hangar complex known as Hangar E. The project broke ground at San Jose International Airport (SJC) in September last year and construction was completed in June. The new hangar has enough floor space to accommodate eight Gulfstream V- or Global Express-size aircraft, and has the necessary 28-foot doors as well.
