The airport board and some users at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio, are at odds over a higher aircraft weight limit proposed late last year. A city council airport advisory board voted seven-to-one to raise the weight limit from 70,000 pounds mtow to 100,000 pounds and to keep the limit in place for 10 years. City-owned Lunken currently has some 130,000 operations per year and no scheduled airline service.
After transferring its FBO operations to Atlantic Aviation, Ranger Jet Center at Orlando/Kissimmee Gateway Airport began building its new business center with offices and hangar space available to operators and businesses. In November, Ranger Jet Center held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Osceola Sheriff’s aviation facility. The event also acknowledged two newly finished general aviation hangars.
Growth at Salina Airport in Kansas has been so rapid that the airport is running out of hangar and office space for businesses that want to move to the airport. A new $6 million hangar complex is under construction and is on track to open in the third quarter. The 69,000-sq-ft complex includes 41,400 sq ft of hangar space, 22,600 sq ft of office space and a 5,000-sq-ft customer service area.
Shortly after its purchase by finance house Allied Capital earlier this year, Mercury Air Centers dedicated a new hangar and tenant office facility at Charleston International Airport (CHS) S.C. The 45,000-sq-ft complex is adjacent to Mercury’s existing terminal and incorporates a 23,000-sq-ft hangar bay with 28-foot-high doors that can accommodate large business jets, such as the Gulfstream V.
ACM Aviation has broken ground on a new, 17,000-sq-ft executive terminal with a 60,000-sq-ft hangar on the west side of Mineta San Jose International Airport. Upon completion of construction, planned for fall 2006, ACM Aviation will celebrate 25 years in business.
Aviation Development Group (ADG), in affiliation with Signature Flight Support, has announced plans to construct a private, master-planned hangar community at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin, Texas. When complete, the development will feature 69 individual condo-type hangars totaling approximately 215,000 sq ft, designed to house everything from single-engine aircraft to business jets as large as a Citation X.
All three Long Island (N.Y.) Jet Centers (LIJC) will soon get major facelifts. The three separate projects are expected to cost about $50 million, collectively, with work starting early next year and taking up to three years to finish. Long Island Jet Centers include facilities at Francis Gabreski Airport (FOK) in Westhampton Beach; MacArthur Airport (ISP) in Islip; and Republic Airport in Farmingdale.
Less than two years after breaking ground on its second paint facility, Wing Aviation has announced that principal construction on its third paint hangar has been completed at the company’s Lone Star Executive Airport facility located just north of Houston in Conroe, Texas.
Business Jet Center’s Oakland, Calif. FBO added a new 15,000-sq-ft hangar and nearly 33,000 sq ft of ramp space to its leasehold. The FBO, which opened in 2003 in the renovated 1920s airport terminal building on the North Field side of the airport, now features more than 100,000 sq ft of hangar, maintenance and office space.
Arcadia Aviation’s new 23,000-sq-ft hangar facility at Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport in Martinsburg, W.Va., was finished in the middle of last month, just in time for the reopening of the airport’s 8,800-foot ILS runway. Arcadia’s new hangars have doors that are 28 feet high (to accommodate the Global Express and G550), offices and maintenance shop facilities in each hangar and enhanced privacy and security.
